M. BARBEE
CONFEDERATE VETERAN IS HONORED ON BIRTHDAY
We are late in learning of the birthday celebration in
the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Wood on Christmas day honoring the birthday of
her father, M. Barbee, who was 86 years of age on that day. Mr. Barbee had as
his guest W. S. Waide, who is about the same age. They are both Confederate
veterans and have been close friends from your manhood. Arkansas was their
native state, Mr. Barbee coming to Texas July 5, 1871, Mr. Waide coming several
years later. Both lived at Ballinger previous to their coming to Paint Rock, and
both are still active to the extent that they enjoy the walk from their homes to
town and the pleasant company of friends on the streets.
Others who were in attendance at the occasion were a
daughter, Mrs. W. F. Holland of Eldorado, the immediate family of Mr. and Mrs.
Woods and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bishop and a baby, Don Barbee. Mrs. Bishop is the
granddaughter of Mr. Barbee and Don Barbee is the great grandson.
