MRS. FLORENCE B. COPE
Mrs. Florence B. Cope, 79, Passes Away Tuesday After Long Illness
Tuesday, June 19, 1934, at
the age of 79 years 8 months and one day Mrs. Florence B. Cope departed this
life. She was the oldest of a large family of children, the daughter of the late
john Summerfield and Mary Ann Broyles and was born in White County Tennessee.
She was converted at the age of 8 years and united with the Methodist church.
She was married to John W. Cope and to this union three children were born:
Flora, Stella and Findlay Cope The husband and daughters preceded her in death
many years ago. After the passing of her husband she followed public school
teaching as long as her health would permit. The past three and one-half years
she was an invalid, but bore her suffering with great patience. She made her
home with her son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Findlay Cope, and lovingly cared
for by them.
Mrs. Cope was true to kindred and friends, we have no words
sweet enough to tell of her ministries, generosity and thoughtfulness of others
and was as unselfish as we find in this life.
Love is the ladder by which we climb to the likeness of God
and so the fragrance of this dear mother's love lifts our hearts heavenward and
we are inspired to greater service for others.
"there are three words that sweetly blend-- And on the
heart are graven A precious, soothing balm They Lend-- They're 'Mother', 'Home',
and 'Heaven"
The immediate survivors are the son, and his wife, Mr. and
Mrs. Findlay Cope and their two children Johnnye Louise and James Currie Cope
aged 10 and 7.
J. A. Waide had charge of the funeral arrangements. Services
were conducted from the Methodist church at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning with
Rev L D Hardt assisted by Reb J. W. Sailors. At the graveside the Order of the
Eastern Star had charge. A large crowd was in attendance. The floral offering
was beautiful.
Pall bearers were: Edgar Mosteller, John R. Dorsett, W. W.
Boswell, Manuel Smith, H. A. Stephens, Wallace Williams.
