MARY ELIZABETH CURRIE

    Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Currie, age 87 years, 5 months and 5 days, died at the home of her son, W. B. Currie, Sunday afternoon at 4:55 o'clock after being seriously ill for only a short time.
    Mrs. Currie had been making her home here with her son and his family for many years and was very feeble, not being able to get out much. Her eyesight had failed her and she spent most of her time in her room.
    Mrs. Currie was married to Dr. W. B. Currie on November 24, 1857 and their married life extended over a period of 68 years before he was called by death. Mr. Currie served four years in the Civil War and after coming out from the hospital unit, he practiced medicine and he and Mrs. Currie lived in Llano county for a few years and later moved to Concho near the east county line, giving the name of "Currie Bend" to the big bend in the Concho River.
    Mrs. Currie had 10 children, 54 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. All the children and grandchildren have developed into useful and influential citizens and she departs this life with a real service done. she had lived a long and consecrated Christian life, has reared a big family that has not departed from her teachings, lived for 68 years with her chosen mate, and leaves this world to go and receive her reward for her many faithful acts of this world.
    The funeral cortege left the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Currie Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Paint Rock where funeral services were held at the Baptist church at 3 o'clock with Rev. J. H. McClain pastor of the Ballinger Baptist church, in charge and assisted by Rev. Nicholson of Paint Rock.
    Pallbearers were Elmer Shepperd, Willie Stephens, Neal Nutt of Ballinger and John Billie Wade, W. M. Patton and Plat Roach of Paint Rock.
    Daughters here were Mrs. R. A. Haley of Amarillo, Mrs. Mattie Bishop of Paint Rock, Mrs. Willie Drace of Matador and Mrs. W. A. Christwell of Amarillo. her son W. B. Currie, was at her bedside when she passed away.
    Higginbotham Bros. undertakers were in charge of the funeral.
