Pioneer Of Concho Dead
Rites Saturday For L. H. Winkle, 76, Near Paint Rock

Paint Rock, Jan. 24, Louis Henry Winkle, 67, a pioneer West
Texan, died shortly after midnight this morning at his ranch home, 11 miles east
of here after a brief illness.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock this afternoon
with the Rev. L. D. Hardt, pastor of the local Methodist Church, officiating. he
is survived by the widow and two daughters, Mrs. flora Blair and Miss Willie Mae
Winkle, three brothers and three sisters. One of the sisters, Mrs. Emma
Hagelstein lives here.
Mr. Winkle first came to this country with his father for the
German Immigration Company. Indians were so bad that they returned to
Fredericksburg and returned a few years later. he had been a member of the
Methodist Church since childhood. the Winkle ranch is located about 11 miles
east of here on the Concho River.
