OFFICERS AREST (sic) YOUTH
ON BAD CHECK CHARGES
Forgery Is Alleged--Will Be Tried
in Probation
Court.
Charged with forgoing
two checks, Hill Parnell, a youth, whose father states that he is under 16
years of age, was taken into custody by Sheriff Plott Monday morning. The
lad was later released upon promise to appear for trial in probation court.
The first check named in the allegation is
made out to L. O. Sockwell, proprietor of a local bottling works plant, in
which the boy has been employed. It bears the name of Mrs. C. H. Plott,
wife of Sheriff Plott, and is dated November 21, 1916. This check for the
sum of $12.75 was cashed at the Marlin National Bank. On November
25, another check made out to L. O. Sockwell and bearing the name of B. J.
Mathis, a negro storekeeper, was presented at the bank for payment, but an
official refused to issue the money which it called for.
It was not until a few days ago when Mrs.
Plott's paid checks were returned to her from the bank that she discovered the
forgery. An investigation followed, resulting in the arrest of the youth.
