Cego Cemetery
Falls County, Texas
"The Baptist Church provided the land
across the street from the Baptist Church for the cemetery in 1889. In the
upper section of the cemetery, close to the road, is where the Baptist Church
members are buried, and in the lower section of the cemetery, the people of the
Evangelical Church or Germans are buried."
(Note: The preceding information was
extracted from a college term paper entitled, "Environmental History of
Cego, Texas (Falls County)", written by Lee Maxcy, a Baylor University
graduate student, in November of 1977. The statements were attributed to Cego
resident, Anton Miller.)
From Waco:
Heading southbound on Interstate 35, from the direction of Waco, turn off at
the Eddy exit 315. At the first stop sign, turn left, then turn back right
after crossing back over the Interstate. Follow this frontage road until you come to FM 1239S which crosses over the railroad tracks. Turn left onto FM 1239S and proceed for about 7 miles, until you reach the intersection with FM 1950. Turn left on FM 1950 and follow it into Cego (approx. 2 miles). In downtown Cego, turn right on CR 463S. The cemetery will be on your left, set back from the road. There is a large sign at the entrance to the cemetery.
From Temple:
Heading northbound on Interstate 35, from the direction of Temple, take the
Eddy exit 315. Turn right onto FM 1239S and proceed for about 7 miles, until you reach the intersection with FM 1950. Turn left on FM 1950 and follow it into Cego (approx. 2 miles). In
downtown Cego, turn right on CR 463S. The cemetery will be on your left, set back from the road. There is a large sign at the entrance to the cemetery.
From Chilton-Marlin:
Stay on Hwy. 7 westbound until it intersects with Hwy. 77. Turn right (north) onto Hwy. 77. Approximately 1/2 mile down Hwy. 77, you will need to turn left (west) off Hwy. 77 onto FM 1950. Follow this farm-to-market road until you arrive in Cego, then turn left onto CR 463S and proceed to the cemetery, which will be on your left.
The Cego Cemetery survey began on October
25, 2003 and was completed on November 3, 2003.
The survey was conducted by beginning at front entrance (West side) of
cemetery, moving in criss-cross pattern going North to South, concluding on
East side of cemetery (German section), also referred to as St. Paul United Church Cemetery.
