The couple had 5 children while in Arkansas, 4 of whom lived to adulthood and moved with their parents to Falls County, Texas before 1900. Mattie applied for and was granted a Confederate Pension for Horace's service in the Confederate Army, Arkansas, 11^th & 17^th, Consolidated Infantry, Co. K, Musician.
