In county court
Tom Courtney plead guilty to gaming and was fined $10 and costs.
In the case of Henry Scruggs, on trial in district court Friday on a charge of
murder, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty.
Will Berry was given two years in the penitentiary in district court on a
charge of theft from the person of another negro by the name of Sam
Kelly. Berry is a mulatto negro well known by the officers.
Will Alsup, charged with theft of cattle was acquitted by a jury in district
court Monday. After the state's evidence had been presented the court
instructed the jury to return a verdict of not guilty and this was done.
J. F. Garrity, who was arrested on a charge of attempting to jump a board bill,
plead guilty and was fined $1.00 and costs, amounting to about $21.00. He
paid the fine and settled the board bill, a friend, it is understood, having
sent him the necessary funds.
