District Court Opens

Grand Jury Empaneled For The
Term and Charged.

Large Civil Docket and Eight Murder
Cases.

The honorable district court convened
for the January term Monday morning, Judge S. R. Scott presiding.
The following constitute the grand jury:
B. E. Clark, foreman; L. E. Allen, secretary; Jacob
Fandi, George Bletch, Sam McKinney, Ebb Leaonard, A. Klatt, A. F. Tomlinson, J.
B. Henderson, F. T. DeGrafenreidt, F. W. Stallworth and W. T. Pratt.
The charge of the court to the grand jury was brief,
merely covering in general the violations of law most commonly brought to the
attention of the courts.
The grand juryman have selected the following bailiffs:
Door Bailiff, D. W. Stallworth.
Riding bailiffs, Harry Shelton, E. H. Mullens, P. C.
Williamson, J. W. Westmoreland.
The civil dockets, which is a large one this term.
Was set last week by agreement of the attorneys, for the first three
weeks of the term.
The first case to go to trial was Taylor vs S. A. &
A. P. Railway Company a suit for damages.
On the criminal docket there are eight murder cases,
four of which will require special venires.
There are a number of felony prisoners in jail or on
bond awaiting action of the grand jury.
Criminal Docket
The
setting for the criminal docket are as follows:
Feb. 1 -- Ed Logan, murder; Aaron Thomas, murder; David
Johnson, burglary; John Gunter, assault to murder; Robert Shaw, assault to
murder; Judge White, forgery.
Feb. 4 -- W. W. Holloway, murder; Will Johnson, murder;
W. A. Thomas, forgery; Chas Nelson, illegal voting; J. D. Hunt, illegal voting.
Feb. 8 -- J. F. McClung, disposing of mortgaged
property.
Feb. 9 -- G. Henry Scruggs, murder. Special venire.
Feb. 11 -- Henry Scruggs, murder. Special venire.
Feb. 12 -- Scharlotte Massey, murder. Special
venire.
Feb. 19 -- John T. Spivey, murder. Special
venire.
