DECORATION DAY EXERCISES
Decoration exercises Tuesday were
attended by a goodly number of people. Most of the merchants closed their
places of business from three to five, giving their employes and themselves an
opportunity to attend.
The line of march was taken up at the court house
square and was made up of exconfederates, citizens, sons and daughters of
confederates. military company, fire department, school children and teachers.
Arriving at the cemetery the exercises were conducted
as follows, Judge Boyles acting as master of ceremonies:
Prayer - Rev. M. T. Andrews.
Song - "Nearer My God to Thee."
Address - Rev. A. J. Weekes.
Song -"America," by school children.
Decoration of graves.
Drill by military company.
Disperse.
The address of Rev. A. J. Weekes was given close
attention throughout and was greatly appreciated by the old soldiers and others
present.
CAMP MINUTES.
Willis L. Lang Camp, U. C. V., No. 299, met April 26,
1904, at 10 o'clock, a. m. Present - King, Lenoir, Stallworth, Murphy, Mullins,
J. Reynolds, Robertson, Boyles, Owens, Frazier, Cockrell, Storey, Travis,
Finley, Stewart, Gwin, Jones, Taylor, Richards, Kelley, A. C. Reynolds.
Delegates elected to the National reunion - Murphy,
King, Frazier.
Alternates - Robertson, Lenoir, Morris.
To the state reunion - Cockrell, Storey, Kelly.
Alternates - Gwyn, Richards, Stewart.
Adjourned to meet 3rd Saturday in May at 2 o'clock.
Col. Phil Fall, adjutant Dick Dowling camp of Houston, who is also a member of
Gen. Lee's staff, was with us at this meeting.
