Hoolia-Beulah Cemetery
Falls County, Texas

Submitted by William
“Bill” Tye Jr.
See Larger Picture and Description Below
On the 26th of May, 1883, G. W. & R. E. Hay deeded a parcel of
land, immediately adjacent to land occupied by the rural schoolhouse known as
Beulah School, to representatives of the Beulah Primitive Baptist Church. This
land would become the future site of the Beulah Primitive Baptist Church. A
portion of the deeded land was to be set aside as a cemetery. This cemetery
later became known as the Beulah cemetery. When a sign for the cemetery was
installed just off FM1239, it listed the cemetery as Beulah Cemetery. Because
of the potential for confusion with the other Beulah cemetery located in Falls
County, it was decided that this cemetery would be referred to online as the
Hoolia-Beulah cemetery, to uniquely identify it as the cemetery located near
Hoolia Creek in Falls County.

Hoolia-Beulah Cemetery Needing Some
TLC
This picture was taken
February 2007 and it shows that Hoolia-Beulah Cemetery is in very bad need of
some TLC.
I have been told many of
the tombstones here are in such bad shape, they can no longer be read.
On Tuesday, April 17,
2007, William “Bill” Tye Jr. and his son, Kevin went to mow and start cleaning
up Hoolia-Beulah.
When they got there,
Harvey Scott and brother R. W. Scott, and grandchildren of Haley and Joanice
Scott
had already fixed the
entrance gate and did a lot of mowing and cleaning up of some graves.
Bill and Kevin started
in on cleaning the fence lines and uncovering hidden graves until the rain ran
them off.
He is still planning on
going back and doing more if you would like to help.
Here is work in
progress!
