MARLIN
Marlin.--The services were extremely good at all churches Sunday.
Sunday school was well attended at
Providence with Supt. Mathews and his staff of teachers at their post.
Rev. Mitchell, the pastor, preached practical and profound truths Sunday
morning from the subject, "The Second Commandment." Rev. Jas.
Kelley of Waco, preached a soul stirring sermon Sunday night. The old
maids auction sale was a success at Providence Thursday night; I. E. Dorsey
assisted much in the occasion. Rev. S. M. Mitchell, president of the
ministers alliance appreciates very highly the visits to their weekly meetings
held Tuesday at 10 o'clock Sunday school opened promptly at 9:30 o'clock at St.
Paul with its staff of officers at their post. Supt. Mrs. I. L.
Berry is very much elated over the efforts put forth in Sunday school to make
it better. The pastor, Rev. I. D. Coffee, brought to us a burning
message. Music furnished by the choir was suitable to that wonderful
sermon; then Holy Communion was administered unto us. The A. C. E. League
met at six o'clock and the children rendered a splendid program to surprise
their president, Mrs. A. B. Johnson. Evening service was good and the
financial report for the day was good. Sunday was truly a high day at
Marlin Baptist; beginning with the Sunday school the spirit was kindled, Rev.
Jackson spoke forcefully from the beautiful text, "Jesus Defends His
Mission and Authority." The B.Y.P.U. rendered an unusually splendid program.
The Lord's Supper was administered at the evening services. The church
has launched a spring financial rally to which all auxiliaries have
subscribed. One admission was made to the church and financial
contribution was splendid. Mrs. J. M. Marshall served a dinner party
honoring her mother, Mrs. Narciss Wyman Sunday evening at 1:30 o'clock; those
present were Mmes. T. L. Soders, T. Lard, L. C. Calvert, A. L. Steward and Ben
Hazelwood. Read The Houston Informer.--Harry Nelson.
