Powers Chapel Cemetery
Loop 235 Near Rosebud, Falls County, Texas
Directions to Powers
Chapel Cemetery
Submitted by Phyllis Ray Brooks
·
At the signal light in Rosebud (from
Waco), take a left.
·
Go all the way down to a curve in the
road to the left and take a right.
·
Follow that road all the way to a store
and a house (Wilderville) and take a left.
·
Follow that road for about 3 or 4 miles.
·
From Marlin take the road to Lott and
before you get to Lott there is a turn off that possibly reads Chilton and
Cedar Springs.
·
Take the left to Cedar Springs and stay
on that road.
·
It should about 10 miles before you get
to the Cemetery / Church / Tabernacle.
·
Wilderville Store is about 3 or 4 miles
further on.
·
The Cemetery is on the left and the
tabernacle and church are on the right. You cannot miss them.

The “Grapevine”
Here is a picture of a grapevine that I know has been there at least 50
years.
I played on this
grapevine when I was a kid and I still see kids climbing and swinging
on its vines as late
as Memorial Day Sunday of this year (2005).
I bet every kid
that visited Power's Chapel will recognize these grapevines
and recall fond memories of climbing and swinging on them.
Also visible in this picture is the back of Power's Chapel,
the metal frames where tables are set up
for the big Memorial Day celebration every year and
the cemetery
headstones way across the street in front
of Power's Chapel.

It is believed John
Weldon Pearson is the person most responsible for putting this list
together. Although, severely injured in a farm accident, for years John Pearson
played a big part in the upkeep and improvements to the Power's Chapel
& Cemetery and he was well known for being the area's
local historian. John had a lot of family and historical files
that he collected over the years and these were deposited with the Rosebud
Library.

with a meeting in the morning, catered lunch on the grounds, short meeting
after lunch with entertainment.
The fastest
way to find a grave here is by using your Ctrl + F keys. For those not knowing how to do this, hold
down the CTRL KEY and then hit the F KEY, this will bring up a search box. Next, type in your surname, first name, or
date. Then keep hitting the “find next”
button until you find the one you want.
This survey was done about 1984.
Any new ones that don’t have a tombstone already in place with their name on it
I will be adding to the bottom of this list.
I don’t have a master copy of this cemetery, so if you find a mistake of any
kind, please let me know and I will get it corrected.
Corrections, additions, pictures are always
welcome.
Please send to Kay.

Born in Alabama This one is a
bit confusing. On the Death
Certificate it says she died on May 13, 1928 but it also states the Doctor
last saw her alive on May 14, 1928.
He says he attended her from May 15 – May 16 1928. She was buried on May 16, 1928. Death
