ISAAC
NEWTON CROUCH, SR.
Isaac Newton Crouch,
Sr. - Baptist Minister a Physician, b 1796 in Washington County, Tennessee June
1836 at Little River, Milam County, Texas
being
massacred by Indians - was a son of James and Agnes (Denton) Crouch. On August
10, 1815 in Cumberland County, Kentucky, Isaac Newton Crouch married first to
Nancy Cargile, and had one known son Alonzo Crouch, b 1820 in Tennessee, who
married in1850 to Elizabeth (maiden name unknown), and lived, in Falls County.
On January 27, 1825
in Tennessee, Reverend-Doctor Crouch was married second to Isabelle Deason, b 1804, d 1840 in Robertson County, Texas, and they hi five
children - two dying as infants. The family moved, to Texas with the Nashville
Colony by 1832, and w living there in 1836 when Reverend-Doctor Newton and
Robert Davidson - a neighbor, rode to their farms on Little River to cultivate
their corn. They were Surprised by Indians and massacred in June 1836, and were
buried together in one grave. Isabelle (Deason) Crouch moved to Robertson
County.
The children moved to
Wheelock, Robertson County, Texas in 1843, with Alonzo, Isaac, Jr., and William
W, Crouch coming in 1845 to the area which became Falls County in 1850.
The surviving
children of Reverend-Doctor Isaac Newton and Isabelle (Deason) Crouch were:
Isaac Newton Crouch,
Jr., b November 1825 in Washington County, Tennessee; - married first to Rachel
Louisa Covington, b January 16, 1826 in Tennessee,; married second to Mary
Elizabeth (Boren) Covington.
William Wilford
Crouch, b February 27, 1827 in Tennessee d February 12, 1878 in Falls County,
Texas---married April 27, 1849 in Robertson County, Texas to Mary Jane Covington
- a daughter of John and Jane (Marlin) Covington.
Elizabeth Crouch
b ca 1829 - married first to Thomas J. Barron - a son of Captain Thomas H.
Barron and his first wife, Elizabeth Carnall. They had a daughter, Eliza
Barron, b ca 1846. After the death of
Thomas, Elizabeth
(Crouch) Barron was married second to Jacob Anderson, and lived in Robertson
County, Texas.
