THOMAS
MALCIK
Thomas Malcik, b September 7, 1856 in Hostalkova,
Moravian‑Austrian Empire, d August 30, 1928 in Rosebud, Falls County,
Texas ‑ a son of Jerry and Rosina (Cesek) Malcik. On July 23, 1882 in
Nelsonville, Austin County, Texas, Thomas married Marie Stastny, b October 27,
1859 at Ratibor, Moravia‑Austria, d March 5, 1929 in Rosebud, Falls
County, Texas.
Marie Stastny came to the United States of America
via Galveston, Texas to Austin County in 1878. It was on November 15, 1880 when
Thomas Malcik and his older brother, Stephen, arrived in the United States. Two
years later, Thomas and Marie were married by the pastor of the Wesley Moravian
Brethern Church, Henry Juren. They had both been baptized and confirmed in that
faith in Moravia.
Thomas Malcik was a farmer all his adult life, and
he and Marie lived in Nelsonville for eight years, where five of their eleven
children were born. Thomas filed for citizenship in Austin County on November
1, 1886, and it was finalized in Falls County on August 25, 1894, where they
had moved in 1891 ‑settling in the Barclay Community. Their last six
children were born in Falls County. They worshipped in the Czech Moravian
Brethern Church which met in the Hamilton School, near Barclay.
The eleven children of Thomas and Marie (Stastny)
Malcik were:
Joseph Malcik, b March 25, 1883 at Nelsonville,
Texas, d November 7, 1971married Fannie Antonio Surovik.
Mary Malcik, b July 4, 1884 at Nelsonville, Texas, d
November 5, 1979 ‑ married John Marecek, b November 27, 1881, d November
15, 1958. They had no children, and resided in the now extinct community of
Briary. After John's death, Mary moved to Rosebud.
John Malcik, b April 24, 1887 at Nelsonville, Texas,
d January 27, 1974 ‑ married first on October 31, 1909 to Rosa Bubela, b
July 14, 1886, d March 11, 1934, and had six children: Roland Oswald Malcik,
Milton Frank Malcik, Georgia Ann Malcik, Wilson John Malcik, Ola Del Malcik,
and John Malcik, Jr. Rosa died when
John, Jr. was born; and John Malcik married second to Theresa Michalak, b
September 5, 1895, d April 7, 1978.
Teresa Malcik, b December 1, 1888 at Nelsonville,
Texas, d March 23, 1928 ‑married John Slovacek.
Thomas A Malcik, b October 27, 1890 at Nelsonville,
Texas, d August 17, 1966 ‑married Anna Pomykal.
William Malcik, b March 23, 1892 at Barclay, Texas,
d 1951 ‑ married Rosa Marecek, and had four children: John William
Malcik, b May 17, 1914, d January 6, 1916; Jerome Thelston Malcik, b April 17,
1917, d November 12, 1933; Willie Mae Malcik, b December 18, 1919 ‑ married
January 20, 1951 to William G. Krause; and Evelyn Dorothy Malcik, b May 2, 1926
‑ married July 16, 1949 to Phillip W. Roberts, and had Dawn Roberts and
Daryl Trent Roberts.
Edward Malcik, b April 18, 1894 at Barclay, Texas, d
September 25, 1973 ‑ married Mathilda Tracy Schiller ‑ daughter of
Frank and Mary (Plasek) Schiller, Sr.
Anna Malcik, b April 10, 1896 in Rosebud, d December
20, 1978 ‑ married first to Adolph J. Pomykal, and married second to
Frank Schiller, Sr.
Albina Malcik, b March 24, 1898 in Rosebud, d April
3, 1969 ‑ was not married. She worked as a Practical Nurse in Rosebud,
Temple, and Waco.
Frank Malcik, b April 12, 1900 at Rosebud, d May 3,
1927 ‑ married Vlasta Belinda Schiller, b March 7, 1901, d October 26,
1934. They had one daughter, Ellen Malcik, b February 15, 1920 at Rosebud, who
married Edward Bartlett.
Antone Malcik, b June 9, 1903 at Rosebud, d January
16, 1904.
In addition to their children, the descendants of
Thomas and Marie (Stastny) Malcik number thirty two grandchildren, fifty‑two
great grandchildren, seventy‑four great, great grandchildren, and several
great, great, great grandchildren. The family has an annual reunion in Rosebud
Texas after Easter.
