THOMAS DUDLEY REED

Thomas Dudley Reed, b December 5, 1828 in Howard County, Missouri, d April 22, 1905 in Falls County, Texas-was a son of Hiram and Mary ("Polly" Dudley) Reed - natives of Kentucky who moved to Missouri prior to 1820, and to Milam County, Texas ca 1846 with at least nine of their twelve children.

On June 12, 1854 in Falls County, Texas, Thomas Dudley Reed (called "Dud") became the owner of what is now the "T.D. Reed Addition" of Northeast Marlin, Texas; and in that same year, he married Sarah Oakes, b August 29, 1839 in Tennessee, d February 13, 1885 in Falls County, Texas - a daughter of Charles and Susan (Neal) Oakes of Virginia and Tennessee, respectively.

Dud and Sarah Reed had seven children:

Fredonia ("Dona") Reed, b September 1,1855 in Falls County, Texas, d February 29, 1888 - was the first wife of John A. Gill, b May 5, 1850, d October 13, 1911, and is known to have had John A. Gill, Jr., b Au- gust 21, 1884, d May 20, 1890. John A. Gill married second to his first wife's first cousin, Susan Jane Oakes - and he and both wives are buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Texas.

Richard Allen Thomas ("Tom"), b July 25, 1857, d January 24,1924 and buried in McClanahan Cemetery in Falls County, Texas - married first to Sarah Minerva McClanahan ("Minnie"), b 1862 in Anderson County, Texas, d 1897 in Falls County, Texas and buried in McClanahan Cemetery; married second to a widow, Mrs. Emma (Adams) Oakden, b November 1, 1873, d August 14, 1951.

William T. Reed ("Wick"), b June 14, 1859, d July 28,1883 - married Alice Ray, b July 4,1861, d March 16, 1931, and both buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Texas.

Kate Reed, b ca 1861 in Falls County, Texas - married a Mr. Trotter. No further information.

J. H. Reed ("Doc") - no further information.

Hiram Reed ("Hie") - a daughter, who is reported to have married Frank Trotter. No further information.

Floyd Reed - no further information.

Many descendants of Thomas Dudley and Sarah (Oakes) Reed continue to reside in and around Marlin, Falls County, Texas, while others are elsewhere in Texas and the nation.
