WILLIAM MITCHELL RICE
William Mitchell Rice, b April 23, 1923 in Marlin Texas - was a son of Judge
Benjamin Herbert and Betsey
("Bess" Mitchell) Rice, Jr. - both
natives of Falls County, Texas. On May 8, 1848 in Houston, Harris County,
Texas, Bill married first to Nancy Claire Turner - daughter of Dr. and Mrs.
John Harolde Turner, and they had two daughters:
Loren Carter Rice, and Libby Wessendorf Rice who died in 1977. No further information.
Bill served in World War II, entering the Army Air Corps
in 1942 and serving in Italy and Yugoslavia - completing his service
with the rank of Captain. He was awarded two Battle Stars, Presidential
Citation, Letter of Personal Commendation, Merit and Service Awards. He
received degrees in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from Rice Institute
in Houston,
Texas. He worked for Brown & Root
Company for many years, and is now semi-retired.
He married second in Beirut, Lebanon to Dagmar Jannke, b December 25,
1930 in Germany, and they are the parents of three children:
Kristina Rice, William Mitchell Rice, Jr., and Stefanie Rice. No further
information.
Bill and Dagmar continue to live in Harris County, Texas.
