JAMES SANFORD WELDON
James Sanford Weldon, b June 8, 1848 in Alabama, d November 19, 1912 and
buried in Powers Chapel Cemetery in Falls County, Texas - was a son of James
Weldon, b 1814 in Georgia, and his wife, Delany Myrtis (Tolbert) Weldon, b
December 7, 1853 in Georgia, d July 28, 1907 and buried in Powers Chapel
Cemetery in Falls County, Texas - a daughter of Hezekiah L. Tolbert, b ca 1830
in Georgia, and his wife, Artempie (Walston) Tolbert, b ca 1831 in Georgia.
James and Delany were married November 29,1869 in Autauga County, Alabama.
In 1875, James Sanford and Delany Myrtis (Tolbert) Weldon moved to
Texas, settling in Falls County with two of their eleven children in an area
near Pleas- ant Grove. Their nine younger children were born in Texas. They
were:
Mary Elizabeth Weldon, b March 6, 1871; James Hezekiah Weldon, b
December 21, 1873; Ella Martha Weldon, b February 7, 1876; Ida Weldon, b May 3,
1878; Riney Dollie Weldon, b October 13, 1880; Alice, b March 10, 1883; Viola
Weldon, b November 14, 1885; Bessie Myrtle Weldon, b May 11, 1888 who married
Charles Marcus Boyd; Lillie Weldon, b October 25, 1890; Ada Weldon, b August 4,
1893; and Willie Weldon, b December 2, 1897 who married a Mr. Hamilton, and resides
in Chilton, Texas.
The eldest daughter, Mary Elizabeth Weldon, b March 6, 1871 in Alabama,
d November 19, 1937 and was buried in Powers Chapel Cemetery in Falls County,
Texas. She married August 14, 1889 in Milam County, Texas to James Edward
Perteet, b March 24, 1867 in Pike County, Alabama, d December 19, 1940 and
buried in Powers Chapel Cemetery. They had eight children: Carrie Perteet, b
1892 in Milam County; Ida Perteet, b 1895 at Powers Chapel, Falls County,
Texas; Nellie Perteet, b 1897 in Falls County; Ollie Perteet, b 1901 in Falls
County; Emma Perteet, b 1904 in Falls County; Jesse Edward Perteet, b 1908 in
Westphlia, Falls County, Texas - married August 6, 1931 to Eva Hill, b April
26, 1911 at Buckholtz - a daughter of Ervin Hill, and had Thomas Wendell Perteet,
b April 11, 1932 at Lott, Texas, who married first to Judy Cranfill, and
married second to Marjorie Julian, and had Gregg Perteet, b 1959, Todd Perteet,
b 1963, and Scott Perteet, b 1969, and now resides in Riudosa, New Mexico; Mary
Bell Perteet, b 1910 in Westphalia, Falls County, Texas; and Eula Bea Perteet,
b 1912 in Westphalia, Falls County, Texas.
