DIED IN JAIL.
Dallas, Aug. 5.--A few
hours after he was arrested a man who gave his name as Thomas Hall died
yesterday morning at the county jail. The man was taken in custody in
front of Wray Brothers grocery store in West Dallas late Saturday night by
constable A. W. High and taken to the jail, where he was locked up after a
charge of vagrancy and intoxication had been booked against him. He was
placed in cell No. 10 and during the early morning hours he died. The
other prisoners heard his dying moans and called the jailor, when he arrived
the man was found dead in his bunk.
An inquest was held yesterday by Coroner
Edwards, but no verdict will be rendered until an investigation can be
made. The man, when arrested gave his age at 43 to the jailor end (sic) said
that he was a railroad workman. It is believed that he came from
Mississippi to Dallas. He had been a resident here for about six
months. Among his effects is an accident insurance policy for $1000.
