Kingsville, Texas -- Geneva Meryle Stone Marshall passed peacefully from this
life at her home on Sunday; June 3, 2001 at the age of 85 years. She was
born near Blevins, Falls County, Texas on October 11, 1915, she was a
basketball star for Bruceville-Eddy High School where she met and wed her
husband, R. P. Marshall, on July 24, 1934.
She was a devoted wife and companion
throughout their almost 67 years of marriage. Geneva was a partner in
every sense as well as being totally devoted to all members of her
family. Geneva delighted in entertaining her extended family and host of
friends that she made over the years.
Geneva lived in Kingsville for 48 years
and during that time she enjoyed extensive travels with her husband throughout
the United States and in many countries promoting Santa Gertrudis cattle and
having the opportunity to know so many good people associated with the breed.
She wrote numerous articles about their travel experiences, first being
published in the "Santa Gertrudis Journal" and later compiled as the
book, "Geneva Remembers".
Geneva's earlier athleticism continued
into her adult life with her enjoyment of both tennis and golf. As long
as her health permitted she was active as an award winning garden and floral
arranger with many friends in the garden and bridge clubs. Geneva also
had many other endeavors which included extensive periods of study perfecting
her oil and watercolor painting and a serious period of sculpting. Many
fine examples of her talent and hard work now have treasured places in the
homes of many of her family and friends. In later years, Geneva continued
to enjoy extensive reading, for which she had a life long and voracious
appetite.
Geneva was preceded in death by her
parents, Lella Bowers Stone and Charley David Stone, and a brother, Charles
Abner Stone.
Survivors include her husband, R. P.
Marshall of Kingsville; two sons, Robert (Julie) Marshall of San Antonio, Texas
and Charles (Betty) Marshall of Webster, Texas; a brother Clois (Edith) Stone
of Gatesville, Texas; two sisters, Edna Hayman of Houston, Texas and Lena
(Glenn) Criswell of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three beloved grandchildren Wade,
Chuck and Melanie Marshall; two beloved great-granddaughters, Erin and Kelly, the
many other loved ones of her extended family and a host of dear friends.
From an early age Geneva was an active
Methodist who had a strong Christian faith and made all those she met feel
loved.
Her family well knows of the affection so
lovingly shown to them over the years, Geneva's Christian character was most
clearly exhibited by the countenance which was shown to her many friends, and
acquaintances, of any social status.
