ODDS FARMER DIES HERE
THURSDAY AFTERNOON
John Carson
McKinley, age 87, died in a Marlin hospital at 3:05 p.m. Thursday, July 1,
1948, following a prolonged illness. He had been hospitalized since
February 14th of this year.
Mr. McKinley was born at Owensville, in Robertson county, Texas, December 6,
1860, and his parents and family moved to Mustang Prairie, in Falls county when
he was very young. Mr. McKinley followed a lifetime of farming
pursuits. In 1890 he moved from Mustang Prairie to the Odds community on
farm property that he purchased there. He was very active in community
affairs and church activities. He was a member of the Baptist Church at
Odds. He was active in his farming affairs until about four years ago
when he first became ill.
His first wife was formerly Miss Junia Davis of Mustang Prairie, they were
married in 1880, she died about a year later. To this union was born one
son, Oscar L. McKinley now of Rosebud.
Mr. McKinley's second marriage was to Miss Matilda C. Miller of Rockdale, in
1883. This wife died June 13, 1915.
Funeral services at 4 p.m. Friday, from the First Baptist Church in Marlin,
Rev. W. O. Wright officiating. Burial in the Mustang Prairie cemetery.
Surviving the deceased are two sons, Frank McKinley, Marlin, and Oscar
McKinley, Rosebud. Two daughters, Mrs. T. T. Criswell and Miss Lillie Mae
McKinley, both of Marlin. Also 15 grandchildren and 14 great
grandchildren.
Pallbearers are grandsons of the deceased, J. C., Ray, Travis, Thomas and Glenn
Criswell, and Walter, Miron and Dr. Frank McKinley Jr.
