Dies; Services
Slated Saturday
Richard Laney McKinney, 84, died at a
local hospital Thursday at 11:15 a.m. after an illness of four months.
He was born Oct. 17, 1873, in Winchester
County. He moved with his parents to the Cego community in Falls County in
1879. He attended Southwestern University and came to Temple when he was 20
years of age. He lived here until he went with the Carson, Pirie, Scott and Co.
of Chicago where he remained until his retirement in 1926. Since that time he
has made his home in Waco and Temple, the last 30 years of which have been
spent in Temple.
McKinney joined the Methodist Church at
the age of 14. He became a member of the Masonic Lodge when he was a young man
and received his 50-year pin a few years ago. He was also a member of the
Shrine and the Elks Lodge. He had farming interest in West Texas and he was
well known in ranching circles.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Flora
Wyatt of Houston and Mrs. Maude Bradley of Lubbock. He is also survived by five
nieces and six nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the
Hewett Funeral Home Saturday at 10 a.m. Rev. J. I. Patterson and Rev. Stanley
Williams will officiate. Burial will be in the Cego cemetery.
