Dr. W F. McKinley, Jr., a longtime Marlin physician died Tuesday, Dec. 30,1997. He was 80.
Services were held Friday, Jan. 2 at 10 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Thomas officiating. Interment followed at Calvary Cemetery.
Dr. McKinley was born on April 21, 1917 in Marlin, to parents, WF. McKinley, Sr. and Winnie Brothers McKinley. He attended Marlin schools, graduating from Marlin High School in 1934. He married Dorothy Fountain on September 3, 1937, in Marlin. She preceded him in death on January 19, 1988.
Dr. McKinley attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1940. He served his internship at the John Sealy Hospital in Galveston as well as an assistant residency and senior residency at John Sealy. He served as an instructor in Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch, and served as assistant professor of Medicine, prior to returning to Marlin in 1946. He was a member of the Texas Heart Association, Falls County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association, American Heart Association, American Society of Internal Medicine. He was former director of Trusteeship of the former Torbett, Hutchings, Smith Memorial Hospital in Marlin and director of the former Torbett, Hutchings, Smith Clinic. He is a past president of the Alumni Association of the University of Texas Medical Branch and past director of the Marlin National Bank.
Dr. McKinley authored articles on cardiology appearing in the Journal of the American Medical Association and in The American Journal of Medical Sciences. He was a member of the Marlin Lodge #152 A.F. & A.M. where he recently received his 50 year pin. He also was a member of , the Waco Scortish Rite Bodies and Karem Shrine Temple. He was a member of the First Presyterian Church in Marlin.
Survivors include a son, Frank McKinley, III, of Burnet; a daughter, Pauline (Polly) Brown of Marlin; a sister, Mrs. Marthabel Wardlaw of Houston; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Lee McKinley Drake in 1969. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 6801 Sanger, Waco, Texas.
