Death of Aged Lady.
-----
Groesbeck, Texas, April 24.--Mrs. Nancy I. Parker, widow of Peyton Parker, and
for a number of years a resident of this county, died at the home of her
daughter in Dublin, Friday, April 19, and was buried in Faulkenberry here
Sunday. Mrs. Parker was born in Tennessee January 30, 1827, and was
therefore past the four-score mark. At the age of seven years she moved
with her parents to Arkansas, and there they died. Then in company with
her two brothers she moved to Anderson county, Texas, where she married Peyton
Parker, and in 1847, they moved to Limestone county, where the family continued
to reside until 1883, when they moved to Reeves county, and there Mr. Parker
died in 1887. They were among the first settlers of this county, and it
might be said, of the state. Mr. Parker in company with J. H. Reagan,
fought the Indians and drove them back from the white settlements. He was
the first sheriff of Anderson and Limestone counties after they were organized,
and was a brave and fearless officer. Mrs. Parker is survived by five
children, namely, Mrs. Dora Wiley, Dublin; Mrs. S. P. Elkins, Pecos; Mrs. A. B.
Smith, Marlin; S. H. Parker, Grand Falls and L. M. Parker who resides in
Mexico, besides numerous grandchildren and other relatives.
