Measles Prove Fatal For Big Hill Child
Carolyn Ann Ray, 6-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
J. E. Ray of 3-miles west of the Big Hill community, died in a Marlin hospital
about 4 a.m. Wednesday, January 17, 1951, as the result of complications
resulting from a case of measles.
The girl was attending her first year in school at
Groesbeck. She attended school Monday and became ill after returning
home. Due to the progress of the illness the child was brought to a
Marlin hospital for treatment a few hours before death occurred.
The remains were taken to Mart. Funeral
arrangements were not available Wednesday afternoon.
Surviving are the child’s parents and a 4-year old
brother, Bobby Edward Ray, at Big Hill. Her mother was formerly Miss
Louise Stone, whose parents are Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Stone of the Criswell
community. The parental grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Ray, Rt. 2,
Marlin.
