Father Peter Royal

February 23, 1926 - May 3, 2007

Father Peter Royal, 81, formerly of Marlin, entered into eternal rest on May 3, 2007.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Friday, May 11, 2007 at St. Mary Cathedral Parish in Austin with Bishop Gregory Aymond and Bishop John McCarthy as celebrants. A wake was held before the Mass. Burial was at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

The son of Tasia Sarris and Panayotis Michopoulos, Father Royal was born Feb. 23, 1926 in Taunton, Massachusetts. He attended Notre Dame College in South Bend, Indiana and was ordained to the priesthood as a member of the Holy Cross Congregation on June 14, 1953. Bishop James Coholly of Fall River, Massachusetts presided at the ordination Mass. Father Royal taught for many years at Catholic colleges, including Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts and the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas. He joined the Roman Catholic Diocese of Austin in 1995 serving at St. Joseph Parish in Bryan and St. Joseph Parish in Marlin before retiring in 2001.
