AVA LOU GRIFFIN SELF
November 27, 1911 - January 17, 2006
Ava Lou Griffin Self, 94, of
Rosebud, Falls Co., Texas formerly of Marlin, Falls Co., Texas, died Tuesday,
January 17, 2006 at a Cameron hospital.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2006 at
Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud. Rev. Randy Osborn and Rev. Taylor Sandlin
will officiate. Burial will follow in
Powers Chapel Cemetery near Rosebud.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday, January 20 at the
funeral home.
Mrs. Self was born November 27,
1911 in Clarkson to John and Augusta Parcus Griffin. She lived all of her life in Falls County, moving to Marlin from
Cedar Springs in 1971. She moved to
Heritage House in Rosebud in 2001. She
was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marlin. She married James (Jim)
Self on October 2, 1926. He preceded
her in death on January 21, 1963.
She was also preceded in death by
one son, Paul Self; one grandson, Wayne King; two sisters, Dovey Russell and
Marie Griffin; five brothers, Alton Griffin, Jimmy Griffin, William Griffin,
Grady Griffin and Charles Griffin.
She is survived by four sons, James
O. Self and wife Virginia, of Fort Worth, Texas, David Self and wife Claire of
Columbia, Missouri, John Self and wife Bonnie of Lott, Texas and Cecil Self and
wife Ellen of China Spring, Texas; four daughters, Ardath Fruidenberg and
husband Gene of Marlin, Texas, Ann Thrasher and husband Melvin, Mary Lou Renfro
and husband Roy, all of Lott, Texas, and Elaine Hudson and husband James of
Cameron, Texas; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Self of Lott, Texas; one sister,
Mary Ross of Waco, Texas; one brother, Gordon Griffin of Blooming Grove, Texas;
27 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, and
many nieces and nephews.
Her grandsons served as
pallbearers.
