MARLIN -- Chester Wright (Pop) Tate of Marlin, a retired night superintendent
for General Tire and Rubber Co., died Thursday at a local hospital. He
was 81.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First
Baptist Church in Marlin, with Dr. John Jenkins officiating. Burial will
be at Calvary Cemetery in Marlin.
Mr. Tate was born June 5, 1914, in the
Blue Ridge community of Falls County. He graduated from Reagan High
School and attended Baylor University.
He worked for General Tire and Rubber Co.
from 1944 to 1976, retiring as a night superintendent. He was a former
city council member in Marlin and a former municipal judge. He was an
avid deer hunter.
Mr. Tate married Amelia Myrtlene Criswell
on April 21, 1935, in Marlin, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 6,
1974. He married Pauline Criswell Denard on July 4, 1975, in Fort Worth,
and she preceded him in death on Sept. 24, 1995.
He also was preceded in death by a son,
David Wright Tate, in 1983.
Survivors include a son, Tommy A. Tate of
Marlin; a daughter, Amy Tate of Marlin; a stepson, Charles T. Denard Jr. of
Corinth; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Denard Garrett of Odessa; two sisters, Mary
Beth Malick of Rosebud and Margaret Ann Hay of Marlin; nine grandchildren; and
a great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist
Church of Marlin, the Samaritan House of Marlin or the American Heart
Association.
Adams Funeral Home in Marlin is in charge
of arrangements.
