STRICKEN ON DUTY
OFFICER EXPIRES
Stricken ill while on his post of duty early today, B. L. L.
Taylor, age 61, Marlin night policeman, died about four a.m.
Stopping at a Live Oak street cafe about 3:30 a.m., Mr. Taylor told employes he
was suffering from indigestion and asked for some soda. The supply was
out and he was directed to another place nearby. Later, at the corner of
Winter and Coleman streets, he told Robert Toler, driver of the city's motor
street sweeper, of the attack and Toler volunteered to take him home.
However, Mr. Taylor decided not to go at that time and started back to Live Oak
street. Toler said he drove on up Winter street and at the intersection
with Live Oak, Mr. Taylor told him he believed he would let him take him home.
They preceeded to a garage one block north where Toler obtained a car and
started home with Mr. Taylor. About the time they reached the miniature
golf course on Coleman street, Toler said Mr. Taylor fell over against him and
began gasping. Toler turned about and rushed Mr. Taylor to a hospital
where medical aid was summoned. However, Mr. Taylor died before a
physician arrived.
