Ida Mae (Courtney) Thompson
Ida Mae Courtney Thompson, of Lufkin, was
born December 6, 1910, in Falls County, Texas, the daughter of the late Byron
and Robbie (Dacus) Courtney. She departed this world on March 5, 2005, at the
age of 94 years.
Private graveside services for Mrs.
Thompson will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2005. She will be laid to rest beside her
beloved husband of 65 years, Reverend James E. Thompson, at the Woods Cemetery
in Panola County, Texas, with Reverend Jeff Robinson, pastor of Southside
Baptist Church, officiating.
Mrs. Thompson held a Master's degree from
Baylor University and had done extensive graduate work at Baylor and the
University of Texas. Her entire adult life was spent as a dedicated school
teacher, faithful pastor's wife, Sunday School teacher, mother, grandmother,
and gracious friend. Her unselfish acts of kindness and her lifelong,
consistent example of a beautiful, great Christian lady will long be remembered
by her family and friends. "Her children arise up and call her
blessed", "Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works
praise her in the gates." Proverbs 31:28 & 31.
She is survived by her daughter and
son-in-law, Robbie and Rex Parkman of Lufkin; grandchildren, Tom Parkman and
Jim and Sharon Parkman; four great-grandchildren; two great-great
grandchildren, sister, Naomi Bell; brother, Byron Courtney; a number of nieces,
nephews; and a host of friends and ex-students, whose lives she has touched so
beautifully.
Her immediate family would like to
express gratitude to the third floor nursing staff at Parkwood Place in Lufkin,
for the loving care given to her while in residence there.
Memorials may be made to the Southside
Baptist Church Building Fund, 1615 Tulane Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75901.
The family will receive friends from 6:00
p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home in Lufkin.
