ALLEN THORNELL

The death of Dr. Allen Lee Thornell, 59, of Pittsburg, Texas, and former Superintendent of the Marlin Independent School District.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Dierks Church of Christ in Dierks, Arkansas with interment at the Dierks Cemetery with Bro. Larry Black officiating. A visitation was held Thursday, March 2, 2006 at the Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Texas.

Dr. Thornell, the son of the late George Allen and Lois Lee Lawler Thornell was born August 30, 1946 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Dr. Thornell was a member of the Blodgett Church of Christ, the Rotary Club, a Mason and a Shriner. He served as superintendent of Marlin I.S.D., principal of Lewisville I.S.D. and past Superintendent of Kirby I.S.D. prior to retirement.

Survivors include his wife Barbara Tolleson Thornell, Pittsburg; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Gene Erwin, Mount Pleasant; grandchildren Thomas Bartlett Erwin and William Allen Erwin; brother, George A. Thornell, of Hot Springs; sister, Mary Ann Thornell, Hot Springs.

Pallbearers were Harry Record, Jerome Williams, Tim Brock, Ken Elliott, Keith Alston and Joel Fillip.
