A celebration of his life will follow at
his home and all are invited to attend. George was born Aug. 22, 1945, in
Marlin, to Charles and Margie Portele Meyer. He was baptized and confirmed at
St. Joseph's Catholic Church where he was an Altar Boy. He was a member of St.
Mary's Catholic Church in Waco. George graduated from Marlin High School in
1963. He married the love of his life, Vicky Elliott, on April 26, 1967, and
they had just celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary. George was owner and
partner of Meyer-Herod General Industrial Services for 25 years, and a member
of the Riesel School Board for nine years. He loved any kind of tool,
machinery, and cattle. He was a master builder, building the house he raised
his family in over a period of time with the help of his wife and children.
George also built the house at the lake for the family to enjoy. He was a very
patient teacher, he always let his children make their own mistakes and then
picked up the pieces and helped them fix it. He always told them, "you can
be anything you want to be, you're a Meyer." He loved spending time with
his kids and grandkids teaching them everything because he was the smartest
pawpaw in the world!! His cup was always half full NEVER half empty. George
wanted everyone to get along and stay close so he started Uncle George's 4th of
July Picnic. George touched so many people and inspired everyone he knew. His
life centered around his family always teaching and loving them. He will be
truly missed.
