MARRIED AT LOCKHART.
There was a wedding yesterday that is of more than ordinary interest to Marlin
people, about which a number of people--friends of the contracting parties have
been on the tip toe of expectancy for several days. But few of the many
friends of the happy couple were "next," but in some mysterious way
the information got out but it passed from one to another under bated breath,
as it were, and came near being a genuine surprise to the public.
It was at ten o'clock in the city of
Lockart where two hearts were locked by the nuptial tie, "till death do us
part," in the presence of a few friends of the popular bride and
groom--Miss Lucy Mebane of Lockhart, the bride; Mr. Thomas H. Jones of Marlin,
the groom.
Miss Owen of Marlin was the bride's maid
and Mr. E. F. Smith also of Marlin, was "the best man." It was
a very pretty wedding, albeit 'twas a surprise party to a great many of their
friends.
The groom is the popular, smiling
"Tom" who has held a responsible position with W. M. Gunnell for
several years and who by his correct business habits and exemplary conduct has
won the friendship and confidence of a very wide circle of people.
The bride is pleasantly remembered as one
of Marlin's most beloved school teachers whose school room duties ended with
the last term when she declined a reelection. Possessed of a bright mind
and sweet disposition she is a capital prize that the groom may well
congratulate himself upon winning in the matrimonial lottery.
The writer has known friend Jones long and
well and we are more than pleased at his decision to forsake single life for
that of double blessedness. We always knew Tom would do the right thing
in due time. May his shadow never grow less.
