CARLIE HARLAN AND ARTHUR LEE CONNOR WEDDING INVITATION
THE DAILY DEMOCRAT THURSDAY, JUNE 15, 1905
FIFTH YEAR
MARLIN, TEXAS NUMBER 79
A PRETTY HOME WEDDING
~~~~~
This, Thursday morning, June 15, Rev. W. W. Watts performed
the ceremony that linked the lives and destinies of Mr. A. L. Connor and Miss
Carlie Harlan, a number of relatives and friends being present on the happy
occasion.
Miss Bessie Harlan, youngest sister of the bride, and Miss
Clio Rice, eldest daughter of Judge and Mrs. B. H. Rice, acted as ushers and
with charming grace received the guests.
Miss Burkhead sang "Because of You."
The groom entered the parlor accompanied by his brother, Mr.
E. F. Connor, as best man. The bride in
symbolic white, "A tall, fair maiden full of grace," was lovely
indeed, in a gown of crepe de chene, adorned with a single jewel, a beautiful
broach of pearls and diamonds, a gift of the groom; she held a bouquet of
daisies and ferns, her birthday flower, entered, attended by her father Hon. Z.
I. Harlan, with Miss Constance Harlan as maid of honor, while Miss Branson
played the wedding march.
The newday was not more fair and beautiful than the youthful
pair, whose marriage was thus consummated at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Z.
I. Harlan, the home of the bride, where, as the eldest daughter, she has both
received and given many blessings and grown pure, Christian womanhood. Cultivated in mind and heart, and with a
hand trained to many accomplishments, she is most surely fitted to beautify and
brighten the new home to which she goes.
Nothing was omitted, in the furnishing in every detail of that home,
from the tasteful cook apron for the housewife to the finest of table linens
and accessories, silver and hand-painted china for the dining room and the most
exquisite appointments for each apartment.
Added to these were a number of handsome presents from friends at a
distance and many useful and valuable gifts from the loved ones in her native
city.
Mr. Connor, the happy benedict, seemed justly proud of his new
relation, and with becoming dignity assumed the vows that divinely given, can
only be severed when "the silver cord be loosed and the golden bowl be
broken." Thus passes into his
keeping a growing life full of fairest hopes for the future, and sweet, sacred
memories of her past association in a charmed home-circle, where she has
gathered about her many friends that join in a happy life. "Rule kindly, tenderly, over thy
kingdom fair," and hold "her uncrowned womanhood to be a royal
thing."
After a two-course wedding breakfast Mr. and Mrs. Connor left
on the south bound Central for Blue Ridge, in Collin County, where they will
reside.
