Jeff Davis County Library, serving an area of 2,200 residents, has a collection of 22,000 books and periodicals; in addition, there are 780 CDs, records, cassettes and other audio materials, as well as 1,760 video items, such as DVDs and VHS tapes. Internet terminals are available for use by the general public.

Staffing consists of one employee, plus volunteers. Annual expenditures on the library collection total $10,000. Patrons make 14,700 visits annually, and check out materials 17,600 times. Seven percent of all check-outs are children's materials.

Neill Museum

Antique toys made in Texas including, 300 antique dolls, bottles, and furniture are housed in the historic Trueheart House, west of Courthouse. Admission is charged.   Phone 1-915-426-3969

 Overland Trail Museum

Named for the historic trail that once passed its door, the museum is named for Nick Mersfelter, early resident who was justice of the peace, barber and music master. Pioneer, ranch, trail and law enforcement artifacts. Admission is charged.

W.J. McDonald Observatory

Located 17 miles nortwest on SR 118, then 2 miles s.e. on Spur 78, is on 6,802-foot Mounte Locke. Operated by the University of Texas, the observatory has four optical telescopes ranging in diameter from 30 to 107 inches. The W.L. Moody Jr. Visitor Information Center at the base of the mountain offers astronomical exhibits, videotape presentations and a map of a self-guiding walking tour, which includes a close-up view of the 107-inch telescope. Tours and public viewings are available. Open daily, closed major holidays. Guided Tours at 9:30, 10:30, and 11:30 a.m. and at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. every day. Solar Viewing Program from 10:00 a.m - 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. every day.   Phone 1-915-426-3640

Davis Mountains State Park

Davis Mountains State Park, covering 2700 acres in Jeff Davis County, is four miles northwest of Fort Davis, approximately halfway between Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Carlsbad Caverns, and Big Bend National Park. Original improvements was accomplished by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1933.

Activities include camping, sightseeing, nature study, picnicking, hiking, backpacking, and interpretive programs. The northern half of the park, north of Hwy 118, has been designated the Limpia Canyon Primitive Area.
