J. G. Bishop was with the 10th Confederate
Cavalry in Kentucky, then in camp at Knoxville, Tenn., and afterwards detailed
to serve in the quartermaster’s department at Atlanta and other places. The
quartermaster’s force was organized into two companies, one of which was under
Capt. Fred Crass, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; they worked also in the shoe shops
until the relief was sent to Savannah; then there was service in different ways
until the surrender. He was paroled May 5, 1865. He and his wife are now in the
I. O. O. F. Home at Corsicana, Texas.
OBITUARY
John Goodman Bishop

BISHOP - Corsicana, Texas. Sept. 3. - J. G. Bishop, 86, died at the I. O. O. F.
Old Folks' Home here and funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 4
o'clock from the home of John Humphries, corner of Fourteenth street and Fifth
avenue, Corsicana, with burial in the Odd Fellows plot in Oakwood Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, who also resides at the home. Mr. Bishop was a ward
of the Arlington lodge. He came to the home in 1920. He was well known among the
Odd Fellows of the State and was at one time in business in Paris.

Niece of Gen. Forrest Dies at I.O.O.F. Home

ENNIS, Texas. April 21. - Mary Bishop, 84, resident of Texas last sixty-four
years, niece of Gen. N. B. Forrest, died in I. O. O. F. Old Folks' Home here
Tuesday morning.
She was born in Chappell Hill, Tenn., June 17, 1846, came to Texas in 1867. Her
husband died in old folks' home at Corsicana a few years ago and was buried
there.
Mrs. Bishop's funeral will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday and the body will be
taken to Corsicana for burial.
Mrs. Bishop had been active in the Rebekah Lodge, having organized ten lodges of
that order in different parts of Texas.
