Cassandra Keating Williams
Cassandra Keating Williams, 52, a loving wife, mother and sister, passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at her home. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Bedford, with a prayer vigil beginning at 7 p.m. with Deacon Harry Heinz officiating. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Bedford with the Rev. Tom Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery in Euless. Cassandra was born Dec. 26, 1955, in Corsicana to the late Thomas and Sybil Keating. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Texas, where she majored in art and minored in photography. She enjoyed working with ceramics, playing golf, and fishing. Above all, she loved and cherished her family who will miss her greatly. Cassandra was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Michael Keating. Survivors include her husband, Daniel L. Williams; son, David Williams; daughter, Mary Margaret Williams; brothers, Duane Keating and wife Laura, Kevin Keating, and Timothy Keating; sister, Jennifer Long and husband Tim; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members. Arrangements by Forest Ridge Funeral Home, Hurst.

LONGVIEW — Lois Lorraine Schenk, 85, of Paris, Longview, Richardson, Lancaster, Cuero and Corsicana joined her beloved husband, Jack, in eternal rest with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008.

Services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Winterfield United Methodist Church, 2616 Tryon Road, in Longview. with the Rev. Rita Sims and the Rev. Gene Steger officiating. Burial is set for Rosewood Park in the Garden of Devotion. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home.

Graveside services are to be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday Feb. 3, at Long Cemetery in Powderly, with the Rev. Chris Kelley officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.

Services for Leland Dale “Jimmy” Dosser, 76, Tri-Cities, were held Jan. 30, 2008, at Cooper Funeral Home in Athens with Bill Hauck officiating.
Burial with military honors were held in Malakoff Cemetery.
Dosser was born Nov. 26, 1931, in Kerens to Clara Hinton and Walter Dosser and died Jan. 28, 2008, in Tyler.
He was preceded in death by his wife Rita Faye Dosser in 2005, and daughter Rhonda Elaine Dosser in 1957.
He attended Cross Roads and Malakoff schools and served in the Army in Berlin.
He worked as a roughneck and was a journeyman technician for Curtes Mathes, the Texas Department of Corrections and retired from Harvey Industries.
He was a member of Crescent Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter Teresa Dosser Kirkpatrick, Tri-Cities; son Roy Dosser, Tri-Cities; brother W.J. Dosser, Louisiana; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Pallbearers were Robert Harris, Glen Smith, Michael Hughes, Joe Glasgow, Warren Authement and Joe Holder.
Honorary pallbearers were Dustin Johnson, Trenton Dosser and Pat Glasgow.

Sterling C. Crim
Jan 5, 1927 - Feb 10, 2008

BEAUMONT - Sterling Cromwell Crim was born Jan. 5, 1927, in Corsicana and died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth.

Sterling was a life-long scholar earning six degrees, and after retirement continued to study German and Spanish. He taught mathematics for 43 years at the junior high, high school, junior college and university levels. His last 31 years were at Lamar University which included two years in Malaysia under an international teaching program. Sterling proudly served his country in the United States Army in the Philippines following World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Louise Crim; daughter, Kathryn Collins and her husband Terry of Glen Allen, Va.; son, Randy Crim and his wife Ellen of Dallas; grandchildren, Laura and Julia Collins, Emily, Patrick, Andrew and Charlotte Crim.


His parents, Willa Frances Cromwell and Churchill Wilbur Crim; and his brothers, Truett, Churchill Jr. and Bill Crim preceded him in death.

A funeral service to honor the life of Sterling Crim will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, at First United Methodist Church, 701 Calder, Beaumont under the direction of Broussard's, 1605 North Major Dr., Beaumont. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at Crim's Chapel in Henderson where his parents, brothers and many other family members are interred. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, at the Mortuary.

Frankie Frost, 86, of Whitney, died Feb. 15, 2008. She was born June 15, 1921, in Athens, Texas, to Franklin and Myrtle (McClanahan) Fisher.

Frankie married D. L. Frost Oct. 18, 1941, in Kerens, Texas. Frankie loved to travel, read a very good book and work in the yard gardening. She was a member of King Memorial United Methodist Church in Whitney.

Frankie was preceded in death by her parents; sister Esther Frost; and brothers Johnnie and Clarence Fisher.

She is survived by her husband; children, Louise Jordan and husband Ronald of Livingston; Jack Frost and wife Pamela of Cedar Hill; brothers, Norris Fisher and wife Naomi of Atlanta, Ga.; Nolan Fisher and wife Doris of Euless; Bob Fisher and wife Roz of Georgetown; Carl fisher and wife Dale of Waco.

She is also survived by four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Organized by Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors, funeral services were Feb. 18, 2008, with Chaplain Ron Hill of Bluebonnet Hospice officiating. Interment followed at Bethlehem Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Foundation.

Services for Jim Arnold, 84, of Meadville, who died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at Franklin County Hospital, will be at noon Monday, Sept. 18, at Greater New Bethel Baptist church with the Rev. Willie Smoot officiating.

Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery in Copiah County under the direction of George F. West Funeral home.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at the church.

Mr. Arnold was born March 28, 1916, in Franklin County, the son of Gable and Bessie Kelly Arnold.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Viola Arnold of Meadville; four sons, Jimmy Arnold Jr., Charles Arnold and Glen Arnold, all of Indianapolis, and Joseph Arnold of Meadville; one stepson, Jimmy Dale Arnold of Natchez; four daughters, Joyce Vaughn and Geneva Arnold, both of Indianapolis, Maryland Arnold of Dallas and Patsy Griffith of Bude; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, J.C. Arnold of Natchez; and a number of other relatives.

Friends of the family will serve as pallbearers.

Don "Bebo" Jones, born April 24, 1932 in Corsicana, Texas, to Benjamin F. Jones and Florence N. Jones, died January 30, 2008 in Garland, Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bobbye (Greene) Jones; daughters, Debbee Reynolds and Donna Haley; grandchildren, Shaun Reynolds and wife, Cindy, Jennifer Richardson and husband, Frank, Jonathan Christie, and Gregory Case; great-grandchildren, Austin Tylor Reynolds and Brina Rene Richardson; and a sister, Sue Woods.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, and one grandson.

Funeral service was held on Monday, February 4, 2008 at 2 p.m., at Laurel Oaks Funeral Home Chapel.
 

Robert Ross Owen, Judge

R. R. Owen, 86, Dies Thursday, Rites Friday
Judge R. R. Owen, 86, long time attorney and active in politics many years, 1120 West Fifth avenue, died Thursday morning following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the Corley Chapel with burial in Oakwood cemetery. The rites will be conducted by Rev. Robert J. Potts, pastor of the First Baptist church, of which he was a long-time member, Sunday School teacher and choir member.
Born Feb. 19, 1879 in Hines County, Miss., he came to Navarro county 80 years ago in an ox-wagon train from Mississippi.
After teaching school several years, he studied law and was admitted to the bar. He served as Navarro county judge from 1912-1916 and broke a tie-vote in 1915 among the county commissioners to establish the old Physicians and Surgeons hospital on the site that is now Twilight Home in southeast Corsicana. He had his law offices in the Daily Sun Building from 1917 until failing health required he give up practice.
Judge Owen served several terms as a Representative from Navarro county in the Texas Legislature and headed the draft board in World War I. He was secretary and a leader in the Navarro county Democratic executive committee and party for many years.
Surviving are a son, Robert Owen, Corsicana; three grand-children, six great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Nephews will be pallbearers.

Mrs. Nilar Powers, 90, native of the Frost community, died at the family residence, 713 West eleventh avenue Thursday morning.
Funeral services will be held Friday a t 2 p.m. from the Griffin Chapel with burial in the Dawson Cemetery.
The rites will be conducted by Rev. Homer Cox, pastor of the Eleventh Avenue Methodist church, of which she was a member, assisted by Rev. Delbert Taylor, pastor of the Wesley Methodist church.
Surviving are three sons, A. D. Powers, Franklin, La.; Lewis A. Powers, Burleson, and Odie A. Powers, Duncan, Okla.; eight daughters, Mrs. A. P. Sweeney, Corsicana; Mrs. Bertha Love, Boulder, Colo.; Mrs. A. T. Scruggs Jacksonville;  Mrs. Lulra Mathison, Corsicana; Mrs. Ray Berryhill, Elgin, Okla.; Mrs. J. T. Burness, Fort Worth; Mrs. Eula Hightower, Dallas; 30 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, a brother, A. D. Pevehouse, Corsicana, and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Ernest Stokes, Charlie  Armstrong, Robert Bass Dallas; Dale Hjort, Rufus Pevehouse, Stokes Armstrong and Bill Ross, Grandsons will be honorary pallbearers.

Graveside services for Starlet K. Bridger, two-day-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Bridger, Route 1, Barry, were held Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Hamilton cemetery. The rites were conducted by Rev. Thadson, pastor of the Frost Methodist church.
The child died in Memorial hospital Wednesday morning.
Surviving are the parents, two brothers, Terry Bowling and Timmy Bowling, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Coker, all of Barry, and other relatives.

Death of Captain A. S. Gill

Corsicana, Tex., Jan. 4, - When Captain A. S. Gill died at his residence in Blooming Grove yesterday, one of Navarro County's oldest and most popular and influential citizens passed to his final reward. Captain Gill came to this county from Alabama in 1866 and settled near Purdon, but in later years has made his home at Blooming Grove. He was twice elected to the Legislature, was always a loyal Democrat, and was also a prominent Mason and member of the Methodist Church. His remains were buried this afternoon in the cemetery at Dresden.

KERENS, Dec 6, (Spl) - Graveside rites for Miss Lucy Melear, 71, retired teacher, who died in Lufkin Saturday, were held at the Kerens city cemetery Monday at noon. She had resided in Lufkin since 1930.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Vergen Medford, Lufkin; a brother, Richard Melear, Trinidad and other relatives.

Funeral services for John Bonner, 74, who died in Fort Worth Wednesday morning, were held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. from the Griffin Chapel.
The rites were conducted by Rev. Benny McBryde, pastor of the Eureka Methodist church. Burial was in the Eureka cemetery with the Eureka Masonic Lodge in charge.
Native of Eureka, he was a retired government employee. He was a member of the Wichita Methodist church in Fort Worth and was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Eureka Masonic Lodge, of which he was a past master, past commander of Bertram duGuesclin Commandry No. 1, Knights Templar, Corsicana and a member of Mosian Shrine Temple, Forth Worth.
Surviving are is wife of Fort Worth a son John Bonner Jr.

Ike Roberts, 71, Route 1, died at his home Sunday afternoon following a several months' illness.
Surviving are a brother, Lester Parker, Broken Bow, Okla.; three sisters, Miss Cora Roberts, Corsicana' Mrs. E. A. Jaggers, Broadway, N.M., and Mrs. W. Z. Polley, San Augustine, and other relatives.
Arrangements were pending early age and resided there until Griffin Funeral Chapel, but burial will be in Roberts cemetery in San Augustine.

FUNERAL SERVICES TUESDAY AFTERNOON FOR J. W. HODGE
Funeral services for J. W. Hodge, aged 56? years, well known farmer of this section, who died on the Clay Nash farm six miles west of Corsicana on the Corbet road Monday night at 6 o'clock following a lingering illness, where held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the family residence with burial in Oakwood cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. J. Howard Williams, pastor of the First Baptist church. He had resided on Judge Nash's farm for the past 25 years.
Surviving are two sons, R. M. Hodge, Corbet road; and W. L. Hodge, St. Jo; two daughters, Mrs. W. H. Draper, Burkburnett, and Mrs. J. N. Richardson, Emhouse, and two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Howell, Athens, and Mrs. Nellie Robinson, Comanche.
Pallbearers were Gene Harris, J Cook, Dan Tucker, May Owens, Beaton Owens, and Jesse Howell.
Friends were honorary pallbearers.
The funeral was directed by of Corley McMahon Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. E. H. Tekell, 37, who died in an Athens hospital early Tuesday, were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Corley Chapel with burial in Oakwood cemetery.
The rites were conducted by Rev. Payton Goodman, pastor of the First Methodist church of Hubbard, formerly of Corsicana and Navarro county Methodist churches. Mrs. Tekell was a member of the Eleventh avenue Methodist church.
Native a New Albany, Miss., Mrs. Tekell came to Navarro county at the age of six years. She and her late husband who died in 1957, resided on a farm near Mertens for many years until moving to Corsicana in 1929.
Surviving are three sons, M. A. and J. S. Tekell, both of Corsicana and R. R. Tekell, Cleburne; two daughters, Mrs. Miller Goodman, Albany, and Mrs. Lola Kemp, Corsicana; 13 grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Grandsons were pallbearers.

Funeral services for George W. Clemmer, aged 54 years, formerly of Corsicana, who died in Kilgore Sunday morning at 10:30 o'clock, were held from the residence of his mother, Mrs. E. J. Champion, 604 West Twelfth Avenue, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with interment in Oakwood cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. J. W. Copeland, Methodist Protestant minister. He was taken ill two weeks ago, but his condition was not regarded as serious until a short time before his death.
Surviving are a son, Lloyd Clemmer, Overton; one grand-daughter, mother, two sisters, Mrs. Annie Wheelock, Houston, and Mrs. Daisy Wright, Laredo; two half-sisters, Mrs. Ada Bailey, Jacksonville, and Miss Elizabeth Champion, Corsicana; and two half-brothers, T. H. Champion, Corsicana, and W. D. Champion, Pampa.
Pallbearers were Walter, Hamilton, J. T. Washburn, J. W. Ford, Jess Cook, George Kuykendall and Bright Granger.
The funeral was directed by the Corley-McMahon Funeral Home.

Funeral services for C. O. Golden, Sr., 67, Route 1, Purdon, who died Tuesday, were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the First Assembly of God church. The rites were conducted by Rev. T. F. Donald, pastor, and Rev. Mickey Loftis, pastor of the Navarro Mills Baptist church. Burial was in the Younger cemetery near Purdon.
Golden served in the U.S. Army in the infantry in France during World War I.
Surviving are his wife of Purdon, three sons, J. A. and C. O. Golden, Jr., both of Purdon, and K. W. Golden, Mesquite; eight grandchildren, three brothers, Luke, Bob and Rich Golden, all of Watanga, Okla.; four sisters, Mrs. Lil Esque, Watanga, Okla.; Mrs. Bess Mauldin and Mrs. Essie Ratliff, both of Jones, Okla., and Mrs. Ada Richards, Shawnee, Okla., and other relatives.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Allen Edens, who died in Twilight Home Monday afternoon, were being held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Corley Chapel with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.
The rites were conducted by Rev. David Watt, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Edens was a life-long Corsicana resident. She had been ill for several months.
Surviving are a brother, Charles H. Allen, Corsicana; a nephew, J. C. Allen, III, and a niece, Nancy Allen, both of New Work (sic) City, and other relatives.
Pallbearers were W. A. Lang, R. L. Hamilton, Roy Bristow, E. W. Tinkle, Tommy Green, Ed M. Polk, Wade Abernathy and James Lorimer.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. from the First Methodist church here with burial in the Kerens city cemetery.
The rites were conducted by Rev. Odis Brown, pastor, and Rev. Don Walker, pastor of the First Baptist church.
Hutson had resided in Beaumont six years.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jewel Hutson, Beaumont; a son, J. D. Hutson, Jr., Beaumont; two sisters, Mrs. Leta Page and Mrs. Alto Graham, both of Denton; two brothers, D. D. Hutson, Denton, and Claud Hutson, Corsicana.

Funeral services for W. T. Arnett, 83, who died Saturday afternoon, were held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Corley Chapel.
The rites were conducted by Rev. B. W. Johnson, pastor of the Pentecostal Church of God. Burial was in the Cryer Creek cemetery.
Arnett resided in the Cryer Creek community for many years before moving to Corsicana. He died at the family residence, 1322 North Beaton Street.
Surviving are his wife of Corsicana, four sons, Travis, Johnny, Frank and J. T. Arnett, and a daughter, Mrs. L. A. Douglas, all of Corsicana; a brother, Rube Arnett, Kerens; 20 grandchildren including County Judge Kenneth A. Douglas; 38 great-grandchildren, and other relatives.
Grandsons were pallbearers.

World War I Veteran Dies
Sunday funeral services were held in Cooper's Chapel Baptist Church, Forreston, for Jessie (Uncle Bud) Crenshaw, 75, native Corsicanaan and veteran of World War I. He died in the Lisbon hospital in Dallas Wednesday. Burial was in Waxahachie.
Before moving to Ellis county, Crenshaw was employed at the Taylor saddle shop and the Cotton Belt freight office here. Among his survivors are his wife, four children, and a niece, Mrs. Cora Lewis of Corsicana.

CB Engineer Dies Monday
Jack S. Caldwell, 65, Cotton Belt engineer of Tyler, guest in the Navarro hotel, was pronounced dead on arrival at Memorial hospital about 11 a.m. Monday after he is reported to have become ill earlier in the morning.
The body was taken to the Corley Funeral Home and was to be transferred Monday afternoon to the Burks-Walker-Tippitts Funeral Home in Tyler.
Caldwell checked into the the hotel about 5:25 a.m. Monday after his train had arrived in Corsicana at 4:28 a.m.

Pearl Audrey Horton Bates, 99, of Rockwall, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, in Rockwall. She was born Dec. 27, 1908, in Purdon to Sim and Roxie Ivie. She is survived by her granddaughter, Diann Mellon of Greenville; two great-grandsons, Troy Daniels of Dallas and Cory Daniels and wife Anna Lorie of South Carolina; two great-great-grandchildren, Emma Daniels and Rachael Daniels; and sister, Jo Ann. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements by Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Marguerite Watts Nichols
MARGUERITE WATTS NICHOLS 1918 - 2008 Marguerite Watts Nichols was born in Silsbee, Texas in 1918 and died at the age of 89 on February 14, 2008, in Houston, her home for the past 62 years. Marguerite was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Marguerite was born in Silsbee, Tx, where she graduated from Silsbee High School at the age of 16. She entered Texas State College for Women in Denton, Texas, where she played the saxophone in the college orchestra. After her freshman year, she transferred to the University of Texas where she studied elementary education. In 1938 Marguerite married James (Nick) Bryant Nichols of Corsicana, Texas, and they made their home in Houston in 1943. In 1948 Marguerite and Nick and their two children moved to Spring Branch to live in the country. Marguerite was a teacher in the Spring Branch Independent School District, where she taught Kindergarten at Ridgecrest Elementary from its opening in 1953 thru 1967. Marguerite was a great teacher, not only to her students but also to her family. She was an accomplished pianist and was the pianist and organist at Spring Branch Community Church in the 1950's. She was also a member of Spring Branch Presbyterian Church and John Knox Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James (Nick) Bryant Nichols; her parents, Maggie Viola Flowers and Charles Bruce Watts; and her brother, Charles Bruce Watts, Jr. Surviving are her son, Jay B. Nichols and wife, Martha, of Katy, Texas; daughter, Becky Nichols Virtue and her husband Bill Fisk, of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Stacie Reed and her husband, Eric; Kristi Draughon Harrison and her husband, Sam; and Stephanie Husmann and her husband, Larry. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and her nephews, Charles Watts, III of Silsbee, Texas, and Mark Nokes of Honolulu, Hawaii. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 18, in the chapel at Houston's First Baptist Church with Pastor Eric Reed officiating. A reception will follow at the church. Visitation will be Sunday, February 17, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at Waltrip Funeral Directors. EVELYN COLLINS WANDELL, passed away on February 7, 2008 in Corsicana, Texas, where she had resided for the past four years. Evelyn was born in Navarro County, Emhouse, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband, A. C. Wandell, parents, Jim Bob and Mamie Collins and her sister, Lavern Chatfield. Evelyn graduated from Texas Women's University. She had resided in the Houston and LaPorte areas for many many years before moving back to the Corsicana area. She started her teaching career in Emhouse, Texas. Evelyn taught at The Henderson Elementary School in Houston for over 38 years before retiring in 1978. Upon retirement she belonged to several local garden clubs in the La Porte area, she also served as president. Evelyn is survived by her sisters, Midred Farmer of Houston, TX, Joyce Love and husband James of Corsicana, TX, Jimmie McCann of Pursley, TX, and Betty Armstrong and husband Bobby of Barry, TX; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 11, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Grand View Bethany Memorial Park.

Elizabeth Ann Murphrey. Born: December 16, 1931. Died: February 2, 2008. Like the tumbleweed of her youth, she rode the arid west Texas winds out of Lamesa, through the University for good Baptist girls in Waco, and into the arms of the flyboy of her dreams, jet jockey John of Kerens. Wedded in 1954, they rode the rest of her way together, hand-holding-back-row-small-town-movie-teens, flying past his high wire engineering work in planes that often never landed and, later a law office she helped run, through the turbulence of two boys and the thunderstorm loss of another, to land back where they began, in the mail order golden years ordered by most, delivered to few. A beast called Cancer snatched her mind and body on February 2, 2008. But their gold remains, a shimmering example of what life's postman can bring when two glide the changing winds together. They were briefly separated by air force duty shortly after their nuptials. Her father, taciturn and pious as a western movie hero, drove her, without speaking, the ninety some odd mirage mirrored miles to Big Spring to retrieve the flyboy who stole his little girl's heart. In perhaps her first act of parental defiance, Ann mugged with her new husband in the backseat throughout the return leg. Her father didn't speak on the way home either. Twenty five years later, like a real-life Sally Fields character, she returned to her homeland to ride shotgun on a cotton picker when a tenant farmer was threatened by a neighbor. Her daddy would have been proud. Faith was her touchstone and Ann was an irrepressible student of the bible. She taught a Sunday school class that began with a handful, grew to capacity and, more importantly to her, became -- something more than a class -- women supporting and loving each other, and another Father made proud. Her flyboy had a double secret, coded nickname for her, the genesis of which the couple shared with nary a living soul. Once, begged by their then young children to reveal the code in their Will, the couple merely laughed. A secret that will die with them, a part of the way they lived, private, united, and forever shielding each other from the harsh desert winds that brought them together fifty four years ago. Ann's death leaves a jagged hole in the fabric of the lives around her, including her: sons, Tim Murphrey and Jeff Murphrey; their wives, Heather Murphrey and Adrienne Murphrey, grandson Zac Murphrey, granddaughter Jordan Grace Murphrey, and great grandson Tashen Murphrey; sister-in-law Patsy Hodges and her husband Houston Hodges; brother-in-law John Shillingburg, nephew John Douglas Shillingburg, his wife Rebecca Shillingburg and children John Kendall Shillingburg and Laura Chandler Shillingburg, her niece and, in a home overfilled with testosterone, the closest thing to a daughter she had, Susie Shillingburg Morris, her husband David Van Morris and their children (and her namesakes) Caroline Ann Morris and Mallory Elizabeth Morris, and nephews Tommy and Charles Parker. Ann was predeceased by her infant son John Mark Murphrey, parents Velma and C.A. Hollingsworth and her sister Nancy Shillingburg. The family will never be able to properly thank or repay their dept to Shirley Walton of Houston Hospice, an Angel in Human Form. A memorial service has been set for 11:00 AM Tuesday February 5, 2008 at the Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood Rd. Houston, Texas 77024.

Roger Majors Sr., 72, of Amarillo died Monday, Feb. 11, 2008.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in River of Life Church with the Revs. Billy and Andrea Wheeler, pastors, and the Rev. T.W. McClenton officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St.

Roger Majors was born July 4, 1935, in Corsicana to Love and Marion Majors Sr. He attended public schools in Shamrock at Dunbar School, where he played basketball and received many awards for his athletic abilities. He met and married Kathryn Wren on May 26, 1954, and to this union six children were born. After relocating to Amarillo, Roger was employed with Glover's Meat Packing and Amarillo Meat Packing before becoming employed with the city of Amarillo, where he worked until he retired.

Survivors include three sons, Luther Ray Majors, Billy Wayne Majors and Timothy Shawn Majors, all of Amarillo; a daughter, Doris Jean Majors of Amarillo; a brother, Finnie Majors of Charleston, S.C.; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Virginia (Francis) McLean

Virginia McLean, 89, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum with the Rev. Jeff Messer and the Rev. Jim Fox officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia St.

Mrs. McLean was born June 8, 1918, in Corsicana to William Stanley and Marie Francis. She graduated from Waco High School and married Will D. McLean in Corsicana on April 15, 1937. She attended Baylor University and worked for Dr. Wheir and Dr. Swindell as the business manager. Later she joined the staff at Dr. Richard Chandler's office as the insurance clerk. She also worked as the equine insurance manager at the American Quarter Horse Association.

Mrs. McLean was an avid fan and patron of the arts in Amarillo. She was a concert pianist, talented artist and an animal lover. She was a member of the Women's Division of the Chamber of Commerce, the American Business Women's Association and First Christian Church. She was simply known as "Mim" to her beloved grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976, and her brother, Walter W. Francis in 1983.

Survivors include three daughters, Carol Stroud and husband Richard, Vicki McLean and husband George Lokey, and Annette Ruddy, all of Amarillo; her grandchildren, Cyndi and Jim Bloom, Kim and Alex Rosson, Mike and Deb Stroud, Greg and Bunny Stroud, Chris and Dawn McLean, Joe and Susan Ruddy and Michael Ruddy; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Jones was born Sept. 17, 1922, in Corsicana to Albert and Lettie Henderson Richardson. She married Marvin Jones on Sept. 16, 1959, in McGregor.

HEREFORD - Jean Bentley, 72, died Sunday, October 7, 2007, in Amarillo.
Graveside services were at 3 p.m. Monday in Friona Cemetery with Johnny Eastep of Central Church of Christ officiating. Services were by Rix Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Bentley was born Jan. 20, 1935, in Navarro County to Ancel B. and Ora Wright Nevill. She married A.L. Bentley on Sept. 10, 1951, in Corsicana.

Survivors include her husband, A.L. Bentley; two sons, Charles Lee Bentley of Palmer and Jerry Lynn Bentley of Shallowater; a brother, Ed Nevill of Trinidad; a sister, Doris Loosier of Coriscana,; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with Jerry Thomas, pastor of North Beacon Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Weems was born Dec. 20, 1926, in Corsicana to Jack and Anna Belle Weems. He was a 45-year employee of Colorado Interstate Gas Co., having worked his way up from being a summer help ditch digger to being plant manager.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Margaret Lupello; and a daughter, Diana Lee Nelson.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Lee Weems; a son, Jack "Buddy" Weems; two daughters, Patricia Thompson and Mary Weems; a brother, Tommy Joe Weems; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Maudie Faye Jordan, a resident of Corsicana, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at the age of 94, in Corsicana. She was born near Dawson in the Union High community on Jan. 24, 1914, to I. H. “Bud” Jordan and Eunice Pearl Sawyer Jordan. Maudie graduated from the Union High Schools where she excelled in sports, especially basketball as the high scorer for the team. Her family was very important to her. She took care of her younger siblings after the death of her mother and was later a caregiver for her special needs sister, Myrtle. She worked for the Mexia State School in the evening for 15 years retiring in 1972. Maudie was involved in the Ladies Auxiliary at Pursley Missionary Baptist Church and later with her church in Corsicana at Second Avenue Baptist Church. She liked to crochet and watch the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys. In her lifetime Maudie only lived in two homes, the one she grew up in and the one in Corsicana where she moved to be closer to town. Maudie was preceded in death by her parents, I.H. “Bud” Jordan and Eunice Pearl Sawyer Jordan; brothers, Marvin, Merl, Melvin and Milford Jordan; sisters, Mamie Freeland, Mellie Evans and Myrtle Jordan; nephew, Bert Jordan; niece, Billie Freeland Pierce; and great-nephew, Scott Jordan. Survivors include her nephew, Milford Lloyd Jordan and wife Sharron of Corsicana; nieces, Nelda Neal and husband Franklin of Corsicana, Peggy Parker and husband Charley of Pearland, Sandra French and husband Charles of Mesquite, Regina Foreman and husband Jimmy of Mexia and Renee Frazier and husband David of Coolidge; brother-in-law, Joseph Evans of Coolidge; 14 great-nieces and nephews; 18 great-great-nieces and nephews; and special friend, Lolete Reed of Corsicana. Cynthia Anne “Cindy” Ogden was born April 29, 1953 in Corsicana and passed away Feb. 20, 2008 in Annapolis, MD at the age of 54, formerly of Mesquite, resident of Queenstown, MD. Cindy was a proud homemaker, a devoted wife and loving mother. She had a degree in Speech Pathology from North Texas University and earned her M.S. in education from East Texas State. She was a teacher in the Kaufman and Mesquite ISDs. Cindy’s true passion was leading the women’s ministry and sharing and exploring God’s word. She was a remarkable woman and a woman of God. Cindy was preceded in death by her son, Charles Darnell Ogden. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Charles A. “Tony” Ogden; sons, Damon C. Venia and Brett A. Ogden; father and mother, Wayne and Flora Rose; sister, Linda Harrelson; and nephews, Corey, David and Chris Harrelson. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. today at Laurel Oaks Funeral Home in Mesquite. Charles A. “Charlie” Goldsmith, 93, of Corsicana passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at Health Care and Rehab of Corsicana. Born on Jan. 11, 1915, in Tokio, Texas, he was raised in and around that community. In his adulthood, he took pride in his work as a weaver and a loom fixer at Textile (Cotton) Mills in West, Itasca, Mexia, Corsicana, Bonham, and Hillsboro, but he could never quite get away from work in the soil. With an extraordinary green thumb, he always grew a garden wherever he lived, and sometimes fruit trees and berry vines. His greatest joys were his family, his gardening, and his avocation — his passion — music. He played several instruments, but his favorite was his fiddle, and he could mesmerize others with his fiddle playing. He liked to brag that he once sat in with Willie Nelson, playing his fiddle of course, at one of the night clubs that used to be in West. Arthritis robbed him of the pleasure of fiddle playing in his later years, a stroke in 2001 rendered him bedfast, and diabetes cost him his legs. Nevertheless, he was very tough, and God granted him the milestone of 93 years before succumbing to COPD. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Corley Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jerry Turner and Brother Jeff White officiating. Michael Ray Jenkins

Michael Ray Jenkins was born Jan. 10, 1938 to Thomas Harold and Lola Jenkins of McGregor, Texas. He spent his childhood in McGregor where he met the love of his life Leila Don Ledbetter with whom he shared many treasured childhood memories. Together, they graduated from McGregor High School in 1956. Mike went on to attend the University of Texas where he graduated with a degree in Pharmacy in May of 1960. Mike and Leila were married shortly after his graduation on July 23, 1960. Mike served in the United States Army beginning in October 1960 and was initially stationed at Ft. Hood in Killeen, Texas. In April 1961, he was sent to France and served as a pharmacist at the US Army 34th General Hospital in LaChapelle, France outside of Orleans. While there, Mike and Leila became members of an English-language Baptist Church consisting of military families which God used greatly to help them grow in their spiritual lives. It was there Mike started teaching Sunday School and was ordained as a deacon. They had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Europe experiencing some of their greatest memories. On Aug. 21, 1962, Sharon Lee Jenkins was born to Mike and Leila while in Orleans. However, because of a premature birth, she went to be with the Lord on Aug. 23, 1962. Shortly thereafter, Mike was honorably discharged from the Army and he and Leila returned to the states moving to Corsicana, Texas where Mike began work as a pharmacist at Reid’s Pharmacy. Soon thereafter, they joined Northside Baptist Church where Mike served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon until the time of his death. In June of 1964, son Michael Scott Jenkins was born. Later, in 1985, Scott married Linda Gail Nicholson whom Mike came to love dearly. Mike purchased Reid’s Pharmacy upon the retirement of Miller Reid in 1987. Grandson John Mark Jenkins was born in December of 1990 and quickly became the source of one of Mike’s greatest joys. After 14 years as owner of Reid’s Pharmacy, Mike retired in 2001. Since retirement, Mike and Leila have been able to devote 100 percent of their time to the things they loved most, their family, their church, service to others through many means, including Gideons International and traveling. Mike will be remembered most for his love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his quiet and gentle spirit, and his servant’s heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, T. H. Jenkins, Jr.; sister, Doris Ruth Jenkins; and daughter, Sharon Lee Jenkins.

Survivors are his wife of 47 years, Leila Don Ledbetter Jenkins; son, Scott Jenkins and daughter-in-law Gail Jenkins of Robinson; grandson, John Mark Jenkins of Robinson; brother, Charles Jenkins and sister-in-law Rita of West Columbia; sister, Mary Felty and brother-in-law Howard of Waco; sister-in-law, Joyce Jenkins of Humble; and other extended family.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Building Fund of Northside Baptist Church of Corsicana or to Gideons International.

Family visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008 at Northside Baptist Church in Corsicana with Dr. Rick Lamb officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at the McGregor Cemetery.

Wilma Jo Reeves, 87, of Ft. Worth passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008 in Athens.

Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008 at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery with the Rev. Floyd Petersen officiating.

Mrs. Reeves was born Oct. 20, 1920 in Corsicana. She was an assembler. Mrs. Reeves was the manager of Scotchburger for many years and a member of Memorial Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, L. J. Reeves; sister, Lorene Berryhill; and brothers, Howard Poole and Ralph Poole.

Mrs. Reeves is survived by son, Billy Reeves of Ft. Worth; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Dana Reeves of Athens; four grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and close friend, Charles Weatherby of Ft. Worth.

Mrs. Wilma Jo Reeves, 87, of Athens passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2008 in Athens. She was born on October 20, 1920 in Corsicana, Texas.
She managed the Scotch Burger in Corsicana for many years. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery with the Rev. Floyd Petersen officiating.

Mrs. Reeves was preceded in death by her Husband; L. J. Reeves, Sister; Lorene Berryhill, and Brothers; Howard & Ralph Poole.

SWEETWATER, Texas, Oct. 1 - W. G. Owens, 55, was whirled to death when he became entangled in a line shaft at the Farmers' Gin at Roscoe, near here. A belt slipped off which he was endeavoring to replace. The body was sent to Blooming Grove, his former home for burial. A wife, son and two daughters survive.

Mrs. Richardson died Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. D. Strawn, 3514 North Fitzhugh. She was a native of Dawson, Navarro County.

Prominent Physician Blooming Grove Dies

BLOOMING GROVE, Navarro Co., Texas, May 9. - Dr. W.M. Ellis, 67, prominent physician and civic leader here a quarter of a century, died at his home here Sunday afternoon about 5:30 o'clock, following a short illness. Funeral services will be held here Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the First Methodist Church, with burial in the Dresden Cemetery. The services will be conducted by the Rev. P.L. Shuler, pastor of the church.

Dr. Ellis was taken ill with a heart attack late Thursday night.

He was born in Mississippi, but came to Blooming Grove twenty-nine years ago. The body will lie in state at the church Tuesday afternoon from 1 to 3 o'clock. Surviving are his wife, a son, Kay Ellis, Purdon; two daughters, Mrs. Randolph Patterson, Dallas, and Mrs. Jeff Grady, Blooming Grove; six grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters.

Ardner Sykes Buried Sunday

Joseph Ardner Sykes, 62 year old native of the Raleigh community, died Saturday morning at his home in Waxahachie. He had been in ill health for many months.

Funeral was held in Waxahachie Sunday afternoon with interment in Dresden Cemetery. Rev. L.H. Riney officiated.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Sykes of Tyler and Ronald Sykes of Dallas; a daughter, Mrs. Otho Perry of Dallas; two brothers, Troy Sykes of Corsicana and Ermit Sykes of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Bryant of Blg Grove and Mrs. Elbert Patterson of Waxahachie; four grandchildren.

Mr. Sykes was a member of Fairview Baptist Church at Raleigh. He had made his home in Waxahachie for several years.

Roy D. Grounds Funeral Saturday

Funeral for Roy D. Grounds, Sr., was held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in First Baptist Church, Blooming Grove, and interment in Dresden Cemetery followed. Ministers were Rev. William F. Nolan of Corsicana and Rev.
F. E. Baughman of Dallas. The Church pastor, Rev. Ronnie L. Chesser was pianist and Mrs. Chesser was vocalist.

Casket Bearers were W. E. (Bud) York, Earl McLain, Carl Daniel, Albert Bates, Charles Summer and J.M. Johnson. McCormick Funeral Service directed.

Mr. Grounds was born in Mertens in 1902 and lived in Frost many years.
He had made his home in Shreveport. Louisiana, the past seven years, moving to Corsicana only six weeks ago.

He was admitted to Memorial Hospital at 2 AM Tuesday suffering a heart attack and died at 10:30 Thursday morning.

Survivors are his wife of Corsicana; sons, Preston of Dallas and Roy D. Jr. of Sherman; 7 grandchildren; brothers, Robert and Reagan Grounds of Dresden and Ralph Grounds of Hillsboro; sisters, Mrs. H. C. Dyer of Frost, Mrs. Newt Flovin of Corsicana, Mrs. Stanford Green of Lancaster, Mrs. Albert Bates of Palmer, and Mrs. Richard Bell of Ft. Worth.

Funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Dresden United Methodist Church for Wiley Tolden (Cotton) Phelps who died in St. Pauls Hospital, Dallas, Friday morning. He had been admitted to the hospital Thursday night. Death was attributed to heart attack.

Rev. Odis Christian, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Dallas, was the minister. Pastor Ronnie Chesser of First Baptist Church in Blooming Grove, and Mrs. Chesser provided the music. Casket Bearers were Don Cunningham, Thomas Furra, W. B. Farish, Roland Haden, Adam Simons and Billy Jones. Interment was in Dresden Cemetery. McCormick Funeral Service directed.

Mr. Phelps married the former Opal Haden of Dresden who died in November 1968. He had been engaged in the construction business and had lived in Hutchins several years. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Peggy Simons of Hutchins; his mother, Mrs. John Phelps of Corsicana; a granddaughter, Linda Ash of Hutchins; sister, Mrs. Minnie Lee McLean of Baytown, and several nieces and nephews.

SHOT FIVE TIMES

Tragedy Results from a Trivial Barter in Navarro County

Corsicana, Tex., Aug. 20. - At Blooming Grove, sixteen miles west of this city, yesterday afternoon, H.T. Chipley, a blacksmith of that place, was shot five times with a revolver and instantly killed, dying without speaking a word. Chipley and others were in front of a livery stable talking at the time, Chipley talking to a man named Mitchell about the size of Chipley, Mitchell saying:

"You are not as thick as a blueback spellingbook."

"No," said Chipley, "but I am from Arkansas, and it takes a hard man to ride me."

This conversation was friendly. The words had hardly been spoken by Chipley when shooting began, Chipley being shot five times as stated.

Immediately after the shooting James McCann, night watchman at the cotton oilmill, surrendered himself to officers and last night was brought to Corsicana in a hack and lodged in the county jail. His examining trial has been set for tomorrow. Both Chipley and McCann were members of the same fraternity and belonged to the same lodge.

Examining Trial of James McCann Begun at Corsicana

Corsicana, Tex., Aug 29. - The examining trial of James McCann, charged with the murder of H.T. Chiples, at Blooming Grove in this county, on Sunday, the 19th instant, waas commenced before Justice Grantham in the city at 2 o'clock this afternoon. The County Attorney is assisted by one of the leading legal firms in the city in the prosecution, and the defendant is represented by strong counsel. There are in attendance a large crowd of witnesses from Blooming Grove and the examination will not be concluded before tomorrow.

McCann Released on Bond

Corsicana, Tex., Sept. 4 - The examining trial of James McCann, charged with the murder of H.T. Chipley at Blooming Grove on Aug. 19, which was commenced before Justice Grantham eight days ago, has at last been concluded. McCann was granted bail in the sum of $5,000, and he made bond for that amount.

Mrs. Sam B. Allen, 69, of Corsicana and native of Purdon, died Friday at Corsicana Nursing Home.

She was a retired nurses aide and a member of Memorial Baptist Church.

Clara Macca Shaw

Mrs. Clara Macca Shaw, widow of J. S. Shaw, died July 5 at the Italy Convalescent Center where she had been a resident for the past seven months.

Born March 2, 1893 in Dawson, she had been a resident of Italy since her marriage to Mr. Shaw, who preceded her in death in 1948.

She was organist for twenty-two years at First United Methodist Church, where she was a member, pianist for thirty years for Italy Lions Club, a director of the Farmer's Co-op Gin in Italy and a member of the American

Legion Auxiliary.  Mrs. Shaw was well known in Frost where she visited friends often and played her organ on many occasions.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. July 7, at the U. M. Church with Rev. Harold Rogers officiating.  Burial was in Dawson Cemetery.

Survivors are a sister, Mrs. Jim Davis of Waco, and a nephew. George Davis of Lubbock.

Halbert W. Keathley, 87, of Corsicana, died Monday at Twilight Home.

He was a native of Frost and had lived in Corsicana 50 years.  He was a retired agent for the Praetorian Life Insurance Company, a 50-year Mason and served in the Navy during World War I.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son, Frank M. Keathley of Dallas; two grandsons, both of Houston; three great grandchildren and two brothers, Charlie Keathley of Corsicana and Forest Keathley of Los Angeles, California.

Services Held For Mrs. Effie Gobbel

Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 26, in the First Baptist Church for Mrs. Effie Gobbel, 86, a former BG resident who died Saturday, Sept. 25, in Houston.

Services were conducted by the Rev. W. A. Corley, pastor of the First Baptist Church, followed by burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.  Both services were under the direction of Bradley Funeral Home of Blooming Grove.

Mrs. Gobbel had lived in the Blooming Grove area for 68 years before moving to Houston four years ago.  She had been a member of the First Baptist Church since 1931.

Survivors include one son, O. C. Gobbel of Porter; one daughter, Miss Mary Gobbel of Houston; one grandson David Gobbel of Porter; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pascual Loredo Ferrer
May 17, 1900 - May 30, 1983

83 year old Pascual Loredo Ferrer passed away last Monday, May 30, 1983.

Mr. Ferrer lived near Barry, Texas and had been an area farmer most of his life.  He is survived by wife Cresencia Huerta Ferrer.

Six sons survive Mr. Ferrer, Pedro of Dallas, Baldomaro of Blooming Grove, Fidel of Dallas, Richard of Corsicana, Henry of Dallas and Richard M. of Barry.

Two daughters survive, both of Barry, Estafona and Maricela Ferrer De Roja.

Three stepdaughters survive, 58 grandchildren and 53 great grandchildren.

Pascual Ferrer will be buried at Rose Hill Cemetery this Wednesday, June 1st, 1983 with services at the BG Funeral Home.

MR. STRODER BURIED AT EMMETT

Funeral for Edward Rankin Stroder was Friday at 5 p.m. at Emmett Baptist Church with burial in Emmett Cemetery. Rev. W. H. Bradberry was officiating minister.

Mr. Stroder was born in Emmett 69 years ago and spent his life there, and farmed until retiring a few years ago.

A coroner's ruling in an inquest of Mr. Stroder's death was, he died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Connor; a grandson, Gary Connor; and a brother, P.R. Stroder, all of Emmett.

Flight Officer Dies In North Africa Area

Blooming Grove, Navarro Co., Texas, Oct. 20. - Notification of the death of their son, Flight Officer Richard R. Massengale, 21, in the North Africa war area Sept. 26, has been received from the War Department by Mr. and Mrs. R.R. Massengale Sr.

Flight Officer Massengale, a graduate of the Blooming Grove High School, received his primary air training at Santa Maria, Calif.; his basic at Minter Field, Bakersfield, Calif., and his wings at Luke Field, Ariz., last Feb. 8.

Besides his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Leta Smith, Ethel and Nanette Coker, all of Dallas, and two brothers, Earl Coker of Blooming Grove and L.D. Massengale of Dallas.

Mrs. Douglas D. Beers, 23, sister of Mrs. P.R. Harrell, 6203 Revere, died Tuesday in an Enid (Okla.) hospital, according to word received here in Dallas. She was the wife of Lieut. Douglas D. Beers, an Army flight instructor.

She is survived by her husband, an infant daughter, mother, Mrs. Myra Sue Sitton, Blooming Grove, and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at Blooming Grove.

John M. Reid, 58, Blooming Grove, Dies

CORSICANA, Texas, March 27. - John M. Reid, 58, civic, business and financial leader at Blooming Grove, died at his home in Blooming Grove Monday. He operated a Blooming Grove drugstore many years.

A deacon in the Central Baptist Church, he had also served as Alderman and member of the Blooming Grove School Board.

Funeral services will be held at Blooming Grove Tuesday with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. He had lived in the West Navarro County town thirty-five years.

Surviving are his wife; a son, J. M. Reid Jr., Blooming Grove; a daughter, Mrs. M.D. Murphy, Leonard; a sister, Mrs. J. A. Smith, Blooming Grove, and two brothers of Sulphur Springs and Oklahoma.

Dr. C.C. Kelsey Dies

BLOOMING GROVE, Texas, Nov. 5. - Dr. C.C. Kelsey, 62, died suddenly Sunday. He suffered a stroke while in church and succumbed two hours later.

Veteran U.S. Army Sergeant Is Buried

HILLSBORO, Texas, June 25. - Veteran of thirty years service in the regular Army, during which he campaigned in the Philippines and in France, Sergt. H.B. (Bud) Lester, retired, of Hillsboro was buried after funeral services in Blooming Grove. The Hillsboro American Legion and Masonic Lodge were in charge of the rites.

Lester died in the veterans' hospital in Dallas.

While serving in the Philippines, Lester won a medal for valor. He was wounded in France.

LESTER - Henry B., age 68, passed away at a local hospital Monday. Survived by one sister, Mrs. Carrie Smith, Blooming Grove, Texas. Body to be forwarded to Blooming Grove Tuesday for services and interment. Arrangements with the Lamar & Smith Funeral Home.
